Jadavpur University is conducting decentralised BTech counselling from October 27 to October 30, 2026, to fill 182 vacant seats remaining after the state JEE board's counselling rounds. General-category candidates with WBJEE 2026 General Merit Rank up to 12,000 have been invited to participate.
The 182 vacancies include 33 seats in civil engineering and 11 in electrical engineering . The rank threshold applies specifically to the WBJEE general merit list. It is not a JEE Main rank threshold and does not extend to reserved-category candidates.
Who Is Eligible
The counselling is open to general-category candidates holding a WBJEE 2026 General Merit Rank (GMR) up to 12,000. JU's decentralised counselling is being conducted strictly on the basis of WBJEE GMR, as stated in the university's official notice .
Candidates should note that the online application window for this counselling ran from October 15 to October 23, 2026, through the JU-DIGANTA portal . The current counselling phase (October 27–30) is for candidates who applied within that window and appear on the final applicant list.
Branch-Wise Vacancies
| Branch | Vacant Seats |
|---|---|
| Civil Engineering | 33 |
| Electrical Engineering | 11 |
| Other branches | Remainder of 182 |
The full branch-wise vacancy matrix is available on JU's admission portal.
Why the Counselling Is Late
BTech classes at Jadavpur University began on October 12, 2026, before the vacant seats could be filled . Vice-Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee expressed concern that students admitted through this late counselling will start classes in November and may struggle to catch up with the syllabus.
"If you hold delayed counselling, you are bound to get students from lower down the rank. This is not a healthy sign for an institute," Bhattacharjee said. He noted that a candidate had chosen KIIT in Odisha because of JU's delayed counselling, and that KIIT had already completed mid-term assessments by the time JU's process was underway.
The West Bengal government permitted Jadavpur University and Calcutta University to conduct independent counselling on October 13, 2026, as a one-time relaxation to fill seats left vacant after the JEE board's centralised and decentralised rounds .
What Candidates Should Do
Candidates who applied within the October 15–23 window and appear on the final applicant list should:
- Check the JU admission portal for the GMR-wise reporting schedule published on October 26, 2026 .
- Attend document verification and spot admission on their scheduled date between October 27 and 30.
- Carry original WBJEE rank card, Class 12 marksheet, admit card, category certificate (if applicable), and identity proof.
Candidates who did not apply within the window cannot participate in this counselling round. They should monitor JU's admission portal for any subsequent vacancy notices, though the government deadline for completing all admissions is October 31, 2026
