What Is MeriPehchaan and Why It's Mandatory
MeriPehchaan is India's National Single Sign-On (NSSO) platform, launched on July 4, 2022, by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in collaboration with NIC, C-DAC, and NeGD. It merges three authentication services — DigiLocker, JanParichay, and e-Pramaan — into a single framework .
For JEE Main 2027, NTA requires candidates to authenticate through MeriPehchaan using Aadhaar, PAN, Driving License, or APAAR ID. This eKYC verification is why identity proof upload has been removed from the document list. The platform also enables multi-factor authentication and password-less login options.
Key change: The uploaded photograph must now have a white background, a shift from the previous "light-coloured" specification .
How to Register Step-by-Step
Step 1: MeriPehchaan Registration
- Visit jeemain.nta.nic.in and click the Session 1 application link.
- Select New Registration, and you will be redirected to the MeriPehchaan login page.
- Enter basic details (name, date of birth, mobile number).
- Complete identity verification using Aadhaar, PAN, Driving License, or APAAR ID.
- Create a password (8–13 characters, including uppercase, lowercase, numeric, and special characters) .
- Save the system-generated Application Number — this is your credential for both Session 1 and Session 2.
Step 2: Fill the Application Form
Log in with your Application Number and password. Complete personal, academic, and contact details. Select your paper (Paper 1 for B.Tech, Paper 2A for B.Arch, Paper 2B for B.Planning) and exam city preferences.
Step 3: Live Photo Capture
Capture a live photograph using your device camera or by scanning a QR code with your mobile phone. The photo must have a white background, proper lighting, and 80% face visibility with ears visible — no mask, no filters .
Step 4: Upload Documents
Upload the scanned photograph, signature, and Class 10 certificate as per specifications below.
Step 5: Pay the Fee
Pay via UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking.
Step 6: Download Confirmation Page

Photo requirements: White background, 80% face coverage, ears visible, no mask, no filters or heavy editing. The uploaded photo and live photo must match.
Troubleshooting Common Errors
OTP not received: Check mobile number and email spelling, look in spam/junk folders, ensure network coverage. Wait briefly before requesting a new OTP. Do not request repeatedly in quick succession.
Photo rejected: Confirm the background is white (not light-coloured), the face is clearly visible, and the file size is within 10–200 KB. Replace the file using the portal's option.
Live photo mismatch: Ensure the live photo and uploaded photo show the same person clearly. Avoid filters, face editing, or strong backlighting. Follow on-screen instructions for recapture if permitted.
Payment pending but money deducted: Note the transaction reference. Do not make a repeated payment immediately. Check the portal after some time. If the status remains unresolved, contact the NTA helpdesk at 011-40759000 / 011-69227700 or email jeemain.nta.nic.in.
Confirmation page missing after payment: Log in and check application status. If payment shows successful but the confirmation page is unavailable, save the payment receipt and follow the official help procedure.
Exam City and Correction Window
Exam city preferences should be selected carefully. The first preference is not guaranteed; allocation depends on the portal's process. Check the city intimation slip (December 30, 2026) for the allotted city and the admit card (January 13, 2027) for final centre details .
The correction window (November 27–29) allows limited changes. Candidates should not assume that exam city or category can be freely edited after submission.
Session 2: April Attempt
JEE Main 2027 Session 2 registration will run from January 5 to February 3, 2027, with exams on April 2–7, 2027. Candidates who applied for Session 1 can log in with the same application number to apply for Session 2 .
