The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026 was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM across exam centres nationwide. Over 22 lakh students appeared this year, reaffirming NEET's position as India's most competitive medical entrance examination.

Overall Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

Students stepping out of exam halls described the paper as manageable yet time-consuming. Lengthy calculations and concept-heavy questions meant that even well-prepared candidates had to pace themselves carefully. Those with strong fundamentals and good time management were clearly at an advantage.

Section-wise Paper Analysis

Physics came across as moderate. Questions were drawn from Current Electricity, Electromagnetism, Kinematics, and Wave Optics — topics that demand both conceptual clarity and calculation speed.

Chemistry was rated easy to moderate overall. Physical Chemistry felt direct and scoring, while Organic Chemistry included a handful of tricky questions that required deeper analytical thinking.

Biology — covering Botany and Zoology — was the most comfortable section for most students. Questions focused heavily on Human Physiology, Genetics, Biotechnology, and Plant Physiology. Students with thorough NCERT preparation would have found this section highly scoring.

Exam Pattern

The paper followed the standard NTA format — 180 multiple-choice questions for a total of 720 marks. Each correct answer carries +4 marks and each incorrect response results in a deduction of 1 mark. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.

Answer Key: What to Expect

Coaching institutes like Allen, Aakash, and Resonance are expected to release unofficial answer keys shortly, covering question paper codes 12, 13, and others. Students can use these to estimate their scores before official results arrive. The official NTA answer key for NEET 2026 is expected within 10 to 15 days of the exam.

Expected Cutoff 2026

Given the moderate difficulty level and positive student feedback, experts anticipate the NEET 2026 cutoff to be slightly higher than last year. The qualifying percentile remains unchanged — 50th percentile for General and EWS candidates, and 40th percentile for SC, ST, and OBC candidates.

What's Next

With the exam concluded, students should track official NTA announcements for answer key releases, result dates, and NEET UG counselling schedules. Admission to MBBS, BDS, and allied medical programmes across government and private colleges in India depends entirely on NEET scores.
