Exam Pattern and Selection Process
The NLSAT-LLB is known for being a tough exam because it is divided into two parts: Part A and Part B. Both parts are given in a single 150-minute session. Part A consists of 75 multiple-choice questions about English, current affairs, and logical reasoning. Interestingly, Part A has negative marking, where 0.25 marks are cut for every wrong answer. Part B is more like a school essay test. It has questions where students must write short answers about legal logic and one long essay on a current topic.
| Section | Type of Questions | Marks |
| Part A | 75 Objective MCQs | 75 |
| Part B | 10 Short Answers + 1 Essay | 75 |
| Total | 86 Questions Total | 150 |
Only the top students from Part A will have their Part B papers checked. Usually, for every 1 seat available, the university only checks the Part B papers of the top 5 candidates. With only 120 seats available in total, the competition is very high.
Conclusion
Graduates who want to shift their career into law should use this month to finish their National Law School Admission Test registration. The university also requires a 2-page CV to be uploaded with the form, so students should prepare that carefully. Since the entrance test is just two months away, starting focused preparation on reading and writing skills is the best strategy. Successfully passing this exam will lead to an admission at India's top law institution starting July 1, 2026.
