GATE 2027 Application Defect Rectification Deadline Extended to November 30

Published 4 Nov 20262 min read

IIT Madras has extended the deadline for GATE 2027 application scrutiny/defect rectification to November 30, 2026, replacing the earlier November 3 deadline. Candidates whose applications have been flagged as defective must check their GOAPS dashboard and registered email, then upload the corrected documents or submit the required response. No additional fee applies for correcting notified scrutiny defects .
Who Needs to Act?
This extension applies only to candidates whose applications were marked defective during scrutiny by the respective zonal institutes. If your application status shows "Under Scrutiny" or "Accepted," no action is required for this specific window. If it shows "Defective," you must rectify the flagged issue before November 30 .
Common scrutiny defects include :
- Photograph not meeting specifications (face coverage, background, file size)
- Signature issues (size, ink colour, coverage)
- Identity number mismatches
- Swapped or incorrectly uploaded images
How to Check and Rectify Your Application
- Visit gate2027.iitm.ac.in and log in to the GOAPS portal
- Check your Application Status — look for a defect notification
- Read the specific instructions attached to the defect
- Re-upload or correct only the flagged item as instructed
- Submit and confirm the status updates to "Under Scrutiny: Defect Rectification Done"
- Candidates should also check their registered email for defect notifications from the zonal institute .
No Fee for Scrutiny Defects
The November 30 deadline applies to scrutiny-defect rectification only, and no additional fee is charged for this step . This is distinct from the separate paid data-correction window, which allows candidates to request changes to accepted entries (such as exam city or paper) on payment of a fee.
Paid Data-Correction Window: Still TBA
The official GATE 2027 dates page continues to list the candidate-requested data-correction window (with fee) as TBA (To Be Announced) . IIT Madras has not confirmed a December opening date. Candidates who wish to make paid changes to accepted entries should monitor the official site; the November 30 scrutiny deadline is not permission to make arbitrary changes now .
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
Failure to resolve notified defects may affect application acceptance . Candidates whose applications remain defective after the rectification window may not be able to proceed to admit card download or examination. The admit card/city allotment notification is scheduled for January 4, 2027 .
