Delhi University Clears 1-Year PG Courses, Greenlights “Semester Away Program”
Delhi University has been actively working on several changes to its curriculum, which have been under discussion in meetings of its Academic Council.

Delhi University has been actively working on several changes to its curriculum, which have been under discussion in meetings of its Academic Council. Some of the significant developments include one-year PG courses in various departments, which follow the Postgraduate Curriculum Framework 2024 and target students who have completed the fourth year of the four-year undergraduate course of Delhi University. The Council has also agreed to allow students to earn 5% of their credits from MOOCs such as SWAYAM and others.
Although it provides great scope for students to learn from a variety of sources, it created great controversy within the faculty, leading to some disagreement amongst the faculty. It appears that some of the discussions regarding the issue were curtailed, preventing a proper discussion on the matter. Another important decision was the sanctioning of the Semester Away Program (SAP). This would allow the students to pursue studies for one semester at a university abroad and get credits applicable to their course at DU. Although this is an interesting opportunity for the students, there were concerns about the cost of such courses eventually being borne by them.
Apart from these, the Council sanctioned the introduction and updating of new courses across different streams such as languages, journalism, and mathematics, among others. It even recommended that the name of the Research Council be changed so that it reflects innovation and entrepreneurship. The departments should recommend the best academic journals for their research purposes.
While all these decisions have been made by the Academic Council, it is still pending the final sanctioning process.
