Developed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Anuvadini has grown from a platform for translating textbooks into one of India's largest multilingual AI systems. Initially created to translate educational content into Indian languages, the platform is now used by a range of organizations, including the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Rashtrapati Bhavan, and Doordarshan.

Anuvadini started with educational translation.

It was originally designed to make technical and educational materials available in Indian languages. So far, it has translated around 46 lakh engineering and diploma books and is currently translating NCERT textbooks into all 22 Scheduled Languages of India. The initiative aims to break down language barriers in education and support the National Education Policy's focus on learning in the mother tongue. The platform supports translation across 22 Indian languages and over 89 foreign languages, using AI-powered translation along with human validation to improve accuracy.

What began as a translation tool has now expanded into a collection of AI-based products and services, including:

  • AI text and document translation
  • Video translation with lip-sync preservation
  • Speech-to-text and dictation tools
  • AI-powered multilingual content creation
  • Virtual keyboards for Indian languages
  • Voice-based form-filling systems
  • Legal translation and transcription tools
  • Knowledge management and document summarization systems
  • Geo-AI solutions for agriculture and governance
  • A multilingual messaging application called "Hyped"

According to AICTE officials, Anuvadini has grown into a business ecosystem worth nearly ₹62 crore, and it operates without direct funding from the ministry.

Massive Employment Generation

One of the biggest achievements of the project is the creation of employment. Anuvadini currently employs around 4,000 people, including software engineers, researchers, interns, language experts, translators, and subject specialists across India. Nearly 3,000 language experts are part of its human validation team. The platform uses a "human-in-the-loop" approach, where AI does the first translation and human experts review and correct it. Officials say AI translations can still have an error rate of around 20–30%, which is why human validation is essential for accuracy.

Rashtrapati Bhavan and Doordarshan Among Key Client

Anuvadini now serves more than 140 government, educational, and private-sector clients, including Rashtrapati Bhavan and Doordarshan. Doordarshan is a major user of the platform's AI-powered video translation technology, which can translate spoken content while keeping lip synchronization, facial expressions, and body movements intact. This allows content to be localized into multiple languages without the limitations of traditional dubbing.

Advanced Technology and Scale

Anuvadini's translation ecosystem includes:

  • Over 150 crore translated pages
  • More than 2,000 hours of video translation
  • Over 76 AI tools and service
  • A repository of 870+ specialized dictionaries and glossaries
  • Support for billions of multilingual interactions through its language intelligence platform

The platform uses AI, natural language processing, speech recognition, computer vision, and machine translation technologies to handle text, audio, images, videos, and documents.

Supporting Digital Inclusion

Anuvadini is also being used to provide citizen services. Its voice-based multilingual form-filling system allows users, including non-literate and semi-literate individuals, to complete government and banking forms using speech in their native language. The platform also offers multilingual access to government welfare schemes and public service information.

The AICTE Career Internship Portal is managed through Anuvadini's ecosystem.

As of April 2026, the portal had:

  • Over 81,000 companies offering internships
  • Around 79 lakh students receiving internship opportunities
  • More than 4.76 crore registered students
  • Around 2.2 crore verified student profiles

Anuvadini's journey from translating educational books to serving institutions like NCERT, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and Doordarshan reflects India's growing focus on developing its own AI solutions. By combining artificial intelligence with human expertise, the platform is helping make education, governance, media, and public services more accessible in multiple Indian languages, while also creating thousands of jobs and promoting digital inclusion.
