UPTAC 2026 Special Counselling: Round 1 Allotment Out Today, Round 2 Vacancy Status Also Released
It's a packed day for UPTAC candidates. The Special Round 1 seat allotment result is out today, August 18, 2026

It's a packed day for UPTAC candidates. The Special Round 1 seat allotment result is out today, August 18, 2026, and alongside it, the vacancy status for Special Round 2 has also been released — giving candidates a clear picture of both where they stand right now and what's still available if this round doesn't work out. Together, these two updates cover the entire tail end of UPTAC's 2026 counselling cycle.
What Special Round 1 Actually Involves
This round exists purely to fill vacant seats left over after the regular counselling and internal sliding process wraps up. Candidates who registered, paid the ₹20,000 special-round fee, and completed their choice filling can now check their allotment status. Getting a seat, though, isn't where things end — candidates need to physically report to their allotted institute between August 19 and 21 with the required admission documents.
This part deserves real attention: if you don't report within this window, your allotted seat gets cancelled automatically, and the ₹20,000 fee is not refunded under any circumstance. So treat physical reporting as mandatory, not optional, once you've accepted a seat.
Didn't Get a Seat Today? Round 2 Is Already Lined Up
For candidates who miss out in Round 1, there's no long wait — Special Round 2 vacancy status was released today as well, giving an early look at which seats might open up next. Registration for Round 2 begins tomorrow, August 19, and runs through August 23.
Here's the complete Round 2 timeline:
| Stage | Date |
|---|---|
| Registration | August 19 – 23 |
| Document Verification | August 19 – 25 |
| Choice Filling | August 23 – 26 |
| Fee Payment (₹20,000) | Till August 26 |
| Seat Allotment | August 27 |
| Physical Reporting | August 29 – 31 |
Just like Round 1, waiting until the last day to report in Round 2 isn't advisable — give yourself a buffer rather than cutting it close.
Who's Actually Eligible for the Special Round?
Not everyone gets to register here. Candidates who were allotted a seat in an earlier round, paid the seat acceptance fee, and haven't withdrawn during Stage 2 or Stage 3 are not eligible for the special round. This stage is meant for candidates genuinely without a confirmed seat. For 2026, eligibility covers admissions based on JEE Main, CUET UG, and 10+2 criteria, depending on the course.
Both Rounds, Side by Side
| Particulars | Special Round 1 | Special Round 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Seat Allotment | August 18 | August 27 |
| Physical Reporting | August 19 – 21 | August 29 – 31 |
| Fee | ₹20,000 (non-refundable) | ₹20,000 (non-refundable) |
| Basis of Allotment | Vacant seats after regular counselling | Vacancies after Round 1 |
A Few Things Worth Remembering
Since special-round seats depend entirely on what's left vacant, it's genuinely different from the regular counselling rounds — fewer choices, and allotment based on your submitted preferences, eligibility, merit, and current vacancies. It's worth reviewing your allotted college and course carefully once the result is out, rather than assuming it mirrors what was on offer earlier in the process.
And regardless of which round you're in, the underlying rule stays the same: getting allotted a seat is only step one. Reporting on time, completing document verification, and finishing admission formalities are what actually secure your place — skipping any of these can cost you the seat entirely.
