For thousands of engineering aspirants who registered for the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling (UPTAC) 2025 Special Round 1, today is the day of decision. The online portal for choice filling is set to close at midnight on August 26, 2025. This crucial deadline marks the end of a pivotal phase in the counselling process, and every choice locked today will directly determine your seat allotment.

This UPTAC Special Round is designed for those who either missed the earlier rounds or were not allotted a seat. It is a golden opportunity to secure admission to B.Tech programs in top colleges across Uttar Pradesh based on your JEE Main 2025 or CUET (UG) 2025 scores. Therefore, meticulously filling and locking your preferences is of utmost importance.

The Critical Difference: Saving vs. Locking

While filling your choices, candidates can save their preferences as many times as they wish. However, the final and most crucial step is to explicitly lock the choices before the deadline. Once choices are locked, no further modifications can be made. It is highly recommended to double-check your list of colleges and branches before clicking the "Lock" button. The UPTAC system does have an auto-lock feature that activates if a candidate fails to manually lock their choices, but relying on this is not advisable due to the risk of technical glitches. Proactively locking your choices ensures that your final, intended preferences are submitted for the seat allotment.

How to Approach Choice Filling

A strategic approach to choice filling can significantly improve your chances of getting a seat in your dream engineering college. Here are some key tips:

  1. Prioritize: Rank your colleges and branches in descending order of preference. Your most desired option should be at the top of your list.
  2. Research: Use past year's cutoff data and news from trusted sources to make an informed decision about the colleges you select. Consider factors like faculty, placements, and campus infrastructure.
  3. Fill Many Options: To maximize your chances, fill in as many choices as you are genuinely interested in. This helps in securing at least one seat from the available options.

What Happens After Today: The Allotment is Next

Once the choice filling window closes tonight, the UPTAC system will process all submissions. The seat allotment result for Special Round 1 is scheduled to be released tomorrow, August 27, 2025. Candidates will be able to view their provisional allotment by logging in to their portal.

This is a high-stakes moment for all engineering aspirants, and it's essential to stay informed about every deadline.
