The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME UP) has announced a final extension for the NEET PG 2025 Round 1 choice-filling process for State Quota seats. The deadline to submit and lock preferences for MD, MS, and DNB courses in Uttar Pradesh is now November 24, 2025. This decision provides a critical few days for aspirants to strategically refine their college and specialization choices. Candidates must log in to upneet.gov.in and finalize their options to secure a seat in top institutions like KGMU, RMLIMS, and GSVM Medical College.

Uttar Pradesh, home to some of India's most prestigious and highest-seat-contributing medical institutions, holds a pivotal position in the NEET PG 2025 counselling cycle. The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME UP) is the authority responsible for conducting counselling for the 50% State Quota seats for admission into MD, MS, Diploma, and DNB programs across Government and Private Medical Colleges in the state.

In light of the continually revised schedule of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for the All India Quota (AIQ), the DGME UP has extended the deadline for the crucial Round 1 choice-filling process. The new, final deadline for candidates to submit and lock their college and course preferences is November 24, 2025. As of November 22, 2025, this extension offers a last-minute breather for registered candidates who have deposited the security money. This time must be used strategically to maximize the chances of securing a desirable seat, especially since the UP seat matrix is vast and complex, encompassing various quotas, including private and management seats.

Strategic Use of the Extension: Key Counselling Rules

The extension is not merely a procedural delay; it is a vital window for candidates to conduct a final strategic review of their choices against their NEET PG 2025 rank. The complexity of the UP counselling, involving multiple types of seats, demands precision in option entry.

  • Strict Option Hierarchy: The fundamental rule of counselling remains: options must be filled in the strict order of preference. Since the allotment software processes choices from the highest rank (Rank 1) downwards, an allotment to a lower preference will automatically eliminate all choices ranked below it. Candidates must list their most desired combination of (College + Course + Quota) first.
  • Security Deposit Details: Participation in the choice-filling round requires prior successful payment of the security deposit, which varies based on the type of college sought:
    • Government Quota Seats (in Government/Private Colleges): Typically ₹30,000
    • Management Quota Seats (in Self-Financing Colleges): Typically ₹2,00,000
    • Note: Candidates interested in both Government and Management seats must pay the higher deposit.
  • Maximizing Choices: Given the massive number of seats available in Uttar Pradesh, aspirants are strongly advised to fill the maximum possible number of options (up to the limit specified by DGME UP). This is particularly important for lower-ranked candidates to ensure they secure at least one seat, as the first round is often the only one allowing fresh option entry.
  • Choice Locking: Candidates must remember that after submitting their choices, they must lock them before the deadline of November 24, 2025. Choices that are not locked will often be auto-locked as the last saved options, but relying on auto-locking is risky.

Top Colleges & Cutoff Scenario in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh boasts some of India's leading medical institutions, which are highly sought after by candidates from across the country. Understanding the demand for seats is crucial for realistic choice filling.

  • Premier Government Institutions: The top choices for MD/MS seats in UP, known for excellent clinical exposure and high patient loads, include:
    • King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow
    • Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow
    • GSVM Medical College, Kanpur
    • Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow (for certain courses)
  • High-Demand Clinical Branches: Branches like MD Radiodiagnosis, MD General Medicine, and MS General Surgery have extremely high demand and consequently close at the lowest ranks (highest scores). Candidates with mid-range ranks should strategically prioritize a good college over a highly competitive branch, or vice versa, based on personal goals.
  • Vast Private Sector: UP also has a large number of private and self-financing medical colleges. These institutions offer different fee structures, which influence their cutoffs. Private college seats are essential for candidates who may not qualify for the high-merit government seats.
    • Management Quota Strategy: Aspirants willing to pay the higher tuition fee for management quota seats should place these options strategically, often after all desirable government college options.

 Post-Deadline Timeline and Reporting Instructions

Once the choice-filling window closes on November 24, 2025, the counselling process will move rapidly to the seat allotment stage. Aspirants must be prepared for the upcoming crucial dates released by the DGME UP.

  • Seat Allotment Result: The result for the Round 1 seat allotment is tentatively scheduled to be published on November 26, 2025, on the official counselling website, upneet.gov.in.
  • Allotment Letter Download: Candidates allotted a seat must download the official allotment letter between November 27 and November 29, 2025.
  • Physical Reporting and Admission: The most critical step is the physical reporting period, scheduled between December 1 and December 5, 2025. Successful candidates must:
    • Pay Fees: Deposit the prescribed tuition fee (if applicable) at the allotted college.
    • Document Verification: Report in person to the allotted college with all original documents (NEET PG Scorecard, MBBS Degree, Internship Completion Certificate, Provisional/Permanent Medical Registration, and all relevant category/security deposit receipts) for mandatory verification.
  • Consequences of Non-Reporting: Candidates who are allotted a seat but choose not to report or join the college are typically allowed to participate in Round 2 without penalty (though security deposit rules may apply), but their Round 1 allotted seat is forfeited.

Conclusion

The extension of the UP NEET PG 2025 Round 1 choice-filling deadline to November 24, 2025, is the final opportunity for aspirants to optimize their selection list for the State Quota seats. Given the high stakes and the sheer volume of choices, every minute should be dedicated to careful review, especially regarding the massive seat matrix of Government and Private colleges in Uttar Pradesh. Ensure your choices are locked on upneet.gov.in before the midnight deadline.
