Bihar Just Made JEE and NEET Coaching Free for 700 Schools. Here's What That Actually Means
Good news if you're a Class 11 or 12 student in a Bihar government school with your eye on IIT or a medical seat.

Good news if you're a Class 11 or 12 student in a Bihar government school with your eye on IIT or a medical seat.
The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has just expanded its free online JEE and NEET coaching to 700 model schools across the state. No fees. No need to move to Kota. Just log in and learn.
And this happened fast. Just two weeks ago, the same scheme covered only 688 schools for general online learning and 146 schools for actual JEE-NEET coaching. That's a real jump in a short time — not just a paper announcement.
There's more. BSEB has also brought this coaching to 155 Saraswati Vidya Niketan Model Schools, a category of schools that usually gets overlooked in big state rollouts.
But It's Not Just About Coaching
BSEB Chairman Thiyagarajan SM called a meeting recently, and out of it came three connected schemes. Here's the simple version of each:
1. Digital classrooms for Classes 9-12
An interactive e-learning platform is being rolled out in around 700 model schools. Basically, schools that never had proper digital learning tools are getting them now.
2. A platform to bring alumni back into the picture
This one's called "Mera Vidyalaya Mera Swabhiman" — and it's a smart idea. It connects alumni, NRIs, NGOs, and companies doing CSR work with over 73,000 government schools in Bihar, so they can directly fund resources, infrastructure, or expertise for their old schools.
Think of it as crowdsourcing school development — instead of the state doing everything alone, it's asking people who care about these schools to pitch in.
3. Districts will now be ranked on performance
Every district has a District Program Officer (DPO) in charge of rolling these schemes out. A committee will track how well each district performs and rank them accordingly. So this isn't just an announcement — someone's now accountable for making it work.
This Isn't BSEB's First Attempt
The board already runs coaching in a few places, and honestly, the numbers show why the expansion matters. Right now, BSEB runs free residential JEE-NEET coaching at two centres in Patna, supporting just 200 students a year — 100 for NEET, 100 for JEE. There's also non-residential coaching at nine divisional headquarters, with 50 seats each, plus evening coaching in 10 model schools in Patna.
Do the math — that's a few hundred students getting help, out of lakhs who need it. The move to 700 schools online is BSEB trying to close that gap at scale.
Is It Actually Working?
Chairman Thiyagarajan SM posted on X that the coaching is being run by experienced teachers and is already showing good results for students. That's promising — but the real test comes when this year's JEE and NEET results are out.
Bottom Line
If you're a student (or a parent) in one of these 700 schools, this is worth checking out immediately. Free, structured JEE-NEET prep without the cost of private coaching is rare — and Bihar just made it a lot more accessible.
