The Tamil Nadu NEET UG 2026 Round 2 counselling registration has started on September 7, 2026 for MBBS and BDS admissions. Candidates can participate through the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee portal at tnmedicalselection.net.  The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Tamil Nadu, has activated separate Round 2 counselling links for the regular 92.5% admission stream covering Government and Management Quota seats, including Minority and NRI seats, and for candidates eligible under the 7.5% reservation for Tamil Nadu government-school students. For the regular Round 2 counselling process, registration will remain open until September 8, 2026. Choice filling will begin on September 9, while the Round 2 seat-allotment result is scheduled for September 15.

Who Can Participate in TN NEET UG Round 2 Counselling?

Round 2 is meant for several categories of candidates rather than only those who remained unallotted in Round 1.

Eligible candidates can include:

  1. candidates registered in Round 1 who did not receive a seat
  2. candidates who were allotted a Round 1 seat but did not join
  3. candidates who joined in Round 1 and are eligible to seek upgradation
  4. eligible candidates who did not register for Round 1 but are permitted to complete fresh Round 2 registration
  5. Fresh registration is therefore permitted in Round 2, subject to the applicable Tamil Nadu admission eligibility and merit-list requirements.

Do Round 1 Candidates Need to Register Again?

Not every Round 1 candidate has to complete a fresh registration. Candidates who registered in Round 1 but were not allotted a seat generally do not need to register again. Candidates who received an allotment but did not join also remain in the counselling system. Candidates who joined their Round 1 seat and had already opted for upgradation may also be considered according to the Round 2 rules. However, a candidate who joined in Round 1, earlier chose not to upgrade, and now wants an upgrade should log in during the Round 2 registration window and confirm participation as required by the counselling portal.

TN NEET Round 2 Choice Filling Starts September 9

Choice filling for Tamil Nadu NEET UG Round 2 is scheduled to start on September 9, 2026 at 2 PM and continue until September 13 at 2 PM. Candidates can select MBBS and BDS colleges according to their eligible quota and arrange the choices in order of preference.

They should check:

  • college and course
  • Government or Management Quota
  • category
  • tuition fee
  • location
  • available vacancies
  • applicable bond or institutional conditions
  • before locking the preference list.

Once choices are locked, candidates should not expect to edit them further. According to the current schedule information, choices that remain unlocked at the deadline may be automatically locked by the system.

What Are Virtual Vacancies in TN NEET Round 2?

Round 2 can include both actual vacancies and virtual vacancies. A virtual vacancy is a seat currently occupied by a Round 1 candidate who is participating for upgradation. That seat will actually become available only if the existing candidate receives a higher-preference allotment in Round 2. Candidates should therefore not assume that every virtual vacancy displayed during choice filling will necessarily become available for allotment.

What Happens if a Candidate Gets Upgraded in Round 2?

Candidates seeking an upgrade should choose colleges carefully. If a candidate receives a new allotment through Round 2 upgradation, the previously allotted Round 1 seat must be relinquished. The candidate will no longer have a claim over the earlier seat. This makes preference ordering particularly important. Candidates should include only those colleges or courses that they are genuinely willing to join.

Tamil Nadu NEET UG Round 2 Counselling Fee

The Round 2 fee cannot be described simply as ₹500 for every candidate. Tamil Nadu counselling uses different fee rules depending on the admission quota and whether the candidate has already completed payment in an earlier round. Current admission information indicates a non-refundable counselling/registration charge of around ₹500 for Government Quota and ₹1,000 for Management Quota, where fresh payment is applicable. Candidates who have already paid the required registration amount in a previous round generally do not have to pay it again. Refundable security deposits may also apply to certain self-financing, Management, Minority or NRI seat categories. Candidates should check the amount displayed on their own counselling dashboard before making payment.

How to Register for Tamil Nadu NEET UG Round 2

Candidates can complete the Round 2 process online.

  1. Visit tnmedicalselection.net.
  2. Open the MBBS/BDS admission section.
  3. Select the relevant Round 2 counselling link.
  4. Choose the applicable quota.
  5. Log in using the existing credentials or complete fresh Round 2 registration if eligible.
  6. Pay the applicable fee if payment is required.
  7. Check the Round 2 vacancy information.
  8. Return during the choice-filling window from September 9.
  9. Arrange colleges and courses in order of preference.
  10. Review the choices carefully before locking them.

The official Selection Committee portal currently displays separate Round 2 online counselling links for the regular 92.5% category and the 7.5% Tamil Nadu government-school reservation category.

TN NEET Round 2 Result on September 15

The Tamil Nadu NEET UG 2026 Round 2 seat allotment result is scheduled to be published on September 15, 2026. Candidates who receive an allotment will be able to download their provisional allotment order during the prescribed window through September 18.

Candidates should verify:

  • allotted course
  • allotted college
  • quota
  • category
  • tuition fee
  • reporting deadline
  • required documents
  • before proceeding with admission.

Last Date to Join Round 2 Seat

The last date to join the allotted MBBS or BDS college in Tamil Nadu Round 2 is September 18, 2026. The detailed schedule lists 5 PM on September 18 as the final joining deadline. Candidates should report with the required original documents and complete college-level admission formalities within the deadline. Candidates are advised to continue checking tnmedicalselection.net because the Selection Committee may publish vacancy lists, revised instructions or other counselling updates during the Round 2 process.
