The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to the Government regarding last-minute changes to the NEET PG 2024 exam, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. Many candidates are frustrated with difficult-to-reach exam centers, especially after a previous exam date was abruptly canceled. The court has scheduled a follow-up hearing for next week to address these concerns.

Urgent Concerns Raised by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud

The Supreme Court of India has taken a significant step by issuing a notice to the Government of India regarding the last-minute changes made to the NEET PG 2024 examination. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud highlighted the urgency of the matter, directing that the case be listed for hearing again in one week.

Frustration Among Candidates

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is set to conduct the NEET PG exam on August 11, 2024. However, many candidates have expressed frustration over being assigned exam centers in locations that are difficult to reach on such short notice. With over 2.28 lakh candidates expected to participate across 416 centers in 170 cities nationwide, logistical challenges are becoming a pressing concern.

Controversy Surrounding Exam Center Assignments

The controversy surrounding the NEET PG examination has intensified following the abrupt cancellation of a previously scheduled exam date, which was called off just a day prior. Critics, including Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, have raised alarms about the need for more accessible exam centers to prevent students from facing long-distance travel and associated challenges.

NBEMS Defends Decision Amid Criticism

In response to the backlash, NBEMS President Dr. Abhijat Sheth defended the decision to conduct the exam in two shifts. He stated that this approach is necessary for normalizing scores and alleviating travel burdens on students. While efforts were made to assign exam centers within candidates' home states, some had to be placed in nearby states due to capacity constraints.

Supreme Court's Involvement Highlights Critical Nature of Changes

The involvement of the Supreme Court underscores the critical nature of these last-minute changes and their potential impact on aspiring medical professionals across India. As the hearing approaches, candidates and stakeholders are hopeful for a resolution that prioritizes fairness and accessibility in the examination process.
