The UPTAC B.Tech Counselling 2025 has commenced its critical Round 1 choice filling process today, July 10, 2025. Candidates must meticulously fill and lock their preferences for AKTU-affiliated colleges by July 12. Understand the process for your Higher Education journey.

A pivotal phase in the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling (UPTAC 2025) for B.Tech programs officially commences today, July 10, 2025. Thousands of engineering aspirants who have successfully registered and completed their document verification are now eligible to begin the Round 1 choice filling process. This crucial window, which allows candidates to select their preferred engineering colleges and branches, will remain open only until July 12, 2025. This narrow timeframe underscores the urgency for aspirants to strategize and finalize their choices without delay.

UPTAC 2025, conducted by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), serves as the centralized admission gateway for various undergraduate engineering courses offered by AKTU-affiliated institutions and other state universities across Uttar Pradesh. The counselling process is based on scores from JEE Main 2025 and, for certain courses, CUET UG 2025.

The Criticality of Choice Filling:

The choice filling stage is arguably the most impactful step in the entire counselling process, as it directly influences a candidate's seat allotment. Aspirants must approach this with meticulous planning and thorough research. Here's a detailed guide for candidates:

Accessing the Portal: Eligible candidates must log in to the official UPTAC website (uptac.admissions.nic.in) using their credentials generated during registration.

Review Available Options: Before filling, candidates should review the complete list of participating institutes and the engineering branches they offer. The seat matrix, indicating the number of seats available in each category for every course, should also be carefully studied.

Strategic Prioritization: This is where careful planning pays off. Aspirants should arrange their preferred college-course combinations in strict order of priority.

Research Cutoffs: While not definitive, analyzing previous year's cutoffs for various colleges and branches provides a realistic estimation of admission possibilities based on one's JEE Main/CUET UG rank.

Dream vs. Realistic Options: It is advisable to list a few "dream" options at the top, followed by more "realistic" choices, and then "safe" options. This balanced approach maximizes the chances of securing a seat.

Consider All Factors: Beyond rank, aspirants should consider factors such as college reputation, faculty expertise, infrastructure, placement records, location, and fees before finalizing their preferences.

Filling Multiple Choices: Candidates are strongly encouraged to fill as many choices as they are genuinely interested in. Limiting choices can significantly reduce the chances of getting an allotment.

Saving and Locking Choices: As choices are filled, candidates should frequently save their preferences. The final and most crucial step is to 'lock' the choices before the deadline of July 12, 2025. Once choices are locked, no further modifications will be permitted. If choices are not explicitly locked by the candidate, the system will automatically lock the last saved preferences at the deadline. It is highly recommended to proactively lock choices to avoid any last-minute technical glitches or unforeseen issues.

Important Dates and Upcoming Steps:

Commencement of UPTAC B.Tech Choice Filling 2025: July 10, 2025 (Today)

Last Date to Fill and Lock Choices: July 12, 2025

Release of Seat Allotment for Round 1: July 14, 2025

Payment of Seat Confirmation & Online Willingness (Freeze/Float/Withdraw): July 14 to July 17, 2025

Post-Allotment Options:

After the Round 1 seat allotment result is declared on July 14, 2025, candidates who are allotted a seat will have three primary options:

Freeze: This option indicates that the candidate is fully satisfied with the allotted seat and does not wish to participate in subsequent counselling rounds for an upgrade. Upon choosing 'Freeze', they must pay the seat acceptance fee and complete the admission formalities at the allotted college.

Float: Candidates who choose 'Float' accept the currently allotted seat but wish to be considered for an upgrade to a higher preferred choice in subsequent rounds. If a higher preference seat is allotted in a later round, the previously allotted seat is automatically forfeited. If no upgrade occurs, the initial seat remains confirmed. They also need to pay the seat acceptance fee.

Withdraw: This option allows candidates to exit the counselling process entirely after Round 1. If a candidate withdraws, their allotted seat is cancelled, and they will not be considered for further rounds.

The seat acceptance fee for UPTAC counselling is INR 20,000 for General/OBC candidates and INR 12,000 for SC/ST candidates. This fee must be paid online within the stipulated dates to confirm the allotted seat and enable participation in further rounds (for 'Float' candidates).

Reminder: Extended Registration Deadline:

For any engineering aspirant who may not have yet registered for UPTAC 2025, there is still a window of opportunity. The registration deadline for B.Tech courses has been extended to July 15, 2025. While choice filling is now active, completing the initial registration and document verification is a prerequisite.

Aspirants are strongly advised to stay continuously updated by regularly visiting the official UPTAC website. Timely action in choice filling and adherence to all deadlines are paramount for securing a coveted seat in their chosen B.Tech program and embarking on their Higher Education journey in Uttar Pradesh.
