The journey towards Higher Education in engineering colleges across Maharashtra is set to reach a significant milestone tomorrow, July 12, 2025, with the much-anticipated release of the MHT CET 2025 Provisional Merit List for B.E./B.Tech admissions. This list, compiled by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra (CET Cell Maharashtra), will rank eligible candidates based on their MHT CET 2025 scores or JEE Main 2025 scores, marking a crucial step before the commencement of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) Rounds.

Thousands of engineering aspirants who successfully completed their online registration and document verification by the extended deadline of July 9, 2025, are eagerly awaiting this provisional ranking. It will provide them with an initial indication of their standing relative to other candidates and guide their strategy for the upcoming choice filling process.

What to Expect with the Provisional Merit List:

The Provisional Merit List is not the final ranking but a preliminary one. Its primary purpose is to allow candidates to review their details and raise any objections or grievances regarding discrepancies in their personal information, academic scores, or category status.

Checking the List: Candidates will be able to access the provisional merit list on the official CET Cell Maharashtra website (fe2025.mahacet.org) by logging in with their application number and password. It will typically display details such as the candidate's name, application number, assigned merit rank, category, and qualifying exam scores (MHT CET/JEE Main).

Verification and Grievance Submission: It is absolutely critical for all candidates to meticulously check every detail on the provisional merit list. If any discrepancies are found, such as incorrect category, marks, or personal details, candidates will have a dedicated window to submit grievances.

Grievance Submission Period: This window is scheduled from July 13 to July 15, 2025. During this period, candidates can submit their objections online, typically requiring supporting documents to validate their claim.

Final Merit List: After addressing all valid grievances, the CET Cell Maharashtra will publish the Final Merit List for MHT CET 2025 on July 17, 2025. This final list will be the definitive ranking used for all CAP Round seat allotments.

Preparing for CAP Round 1 and Beyond:

Following the publication of the final merit list, the MHT CET CAP Round 1 will commence. This is where candidates will fill their preferences for engineering colleges and branches.

Seat Matrix Publication: Before choice filling, CET Cell Maharashtra will release the Provisional Category-wise Seats (Seat Matrix) for CAP Round 1. This document will detail the available seats in each participating engineering college under various quotas and categories.

Choice Filling and Locking (Option Entry): This is a strategic phase where candidates will select their preferred colleges and courses in a prioritized order. Candidates can typically fill a large number of choices (e.g., up to 300) to maximize their chances of seat allotment. It is crucial to research past cutoffs, college reputations, and available specializations before making choices. Once choices are filled, they must be "locked" by the specified deadline; otherwise, the last saved preferences will be considered.

Seat Allotment Results: Based on the candidates' merit rank, choices filled, and reservation criteria, the CAP Round 1 seat allotment results will be declared online.

Acceptance and Reporting: Candidates allotted a seat will have to accept it and either 'Freeze' (confirming the seat and not participating in further rounds) or 'Float' (accepting the seat but allowing consideration for better options in subsequent rounds). This stage also involves the payment of a seat acceptance fee and physical reporting to the allotted college for document verification and admission confirmation.

Tentative Key Dates (subject to official confirmation by CET Cell Maharashtra):

  • MHT CET 2025 Provisional Merit List: July 12, 2025 (Tomorrow)
  • Grievance Submission: July 13 to July 15, 2025
  • MHT CET 2025 Final Merit List: July 17, 2025
  • Display of Provisional Category-wise Seat Matrix for CAP Round 1: Expected last week of July 2025
  • Online Submission & Confirmation of Option Form of CAP Round-I: Expected last week of July 2025
  • MHT CET 2025 Seat Allotment CAP Round I: Expected last week of July 2025
  • Reporting at Allotted Institute and Payment of Fees: Expected last week of July 2025

As Maharashtra's engineering aspirants brace for the release of the provisional merit list tomorrow, proactive preparation for the grievance submission and strategic planning for choice filling will be vital.
