The National Testing Agency (NTA) is on the verge of launching the registration process for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026, the gateway for admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture programs at prestigious institutions like NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. As per the latest updates, the official JEE Main 2026 application form link is highly anticipated to be activated on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, potentially by October 15, 2025.

The start of the application window is a critical event for every engineering aspirant. The NTA is expected to keep the registration portal open for approximately one month, tentatively setting the deadline in November 2025. Aspirants are strongly advised to complete their registration early to secure their preferred exam centre city.

Examination Schedule and Pattern

JEE Main 2026 will be conducted in a two-session format, offering candidates two opportunities to improve their scores. The best of the two scores will be considered for the final ranking. The tentative exam schedule is:

EventDate (Tentative)
Session 1 ExaminationFourth Week of January 2026
Session 2 ExaminationApril 2026

The examination will be conducted in 13 languages, catering to the diverse linguistic background of candidates across the country. In terms of content, the JEE Main 2026 syllabus is expected to remain largely similar to the previous year, though a newly formed panel may review and propose minor changes to align it better with updated NCERT content. Students should focus on the current syllabus until the official notification is released.

Key Eligibility and Application Requirements

Before the application form goes live, it is crucial for students to finalize their preparatory steps and documents.

Eligibility Criteria: The NTA has maintained an inclusive policy regarding the maximum age limit, stating that no age limit applies to candidates. The key criterion is that the candidate must have passed the Class 12 examination in 2024, 2025, or be appearing in 2026.

75% Criteria Clarification: A significant detail for aspirants is the 75% rule. There is no minimum 75% marks requirement in Class 12 to appear for the JEE Main exam. However, this rule remains applicable for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs based on the final JEE Main scores. Furthermore, to be eligible for the prestigious JEE Advanced examination, a candidate must secure a spot among the top 2,50,000 JEE Main rank holders.

Mandatory Pre-Application Checklist: The NTA has urged students to ensure their essential identification documents are updated. This includes checking and renewing details on their Aadhar Card, Caste Certificate, and UDID Card (for PwD candidates).

Application Process and Fee: The online application is a three-stage process: New Candidate Registration, Filling out the detailed Application Form, and Fee Payment. Candidates must upload scanned copies of their photograph, signature, and other relevant documents as per NTA specifications. While the exact fee for 2026 will be announced in the official brochure, it is generally varied based on category and gender.

Post-Submission: Correction Window

Aspirants must fill out the form with utmost care as multiple applications for the same session will be rejected. Once the registration window closes, the NTA will open a Form Correction Window—expected around the first week of November—to allow candidates to edit specific details such as their exam city, academic information, paper selection, and category details, often by paying a nominal fee.

All engineering aspirants should keep a vigilant eye on the official website for the exact JEE Main 2026 notification. For regular updates on admission processes and entrance exams, follow Only Education News.
