The new and final deadline for submitting the online application form is March 11, 2026 (up to 09:00 PM). Aspirants must complete their fee transactions by 11:50 PM on the same day. With over 25 lakh students already registered, this three-day extension is being viewed as a "final lifeline" for those hindered by recent technical hurdles.

In a significant update for the medical community, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially extended the registration deadline for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2026. Originally set to conclude on March 8, the window has been pushed forward due to widespread reports of server glitches and authentication delays. As of today, March 9, 2026, the portal is fully operational for new registrations and fee payments.

Updated Registration Timeline & Fees

The NTA has made it clear that no further extensions will be granted beyond this date to ensure the examination schedule remains on track.

CategoryApplication Fee (INR)
General₹1,700
General-EWS / OBC-NCL₹1,600
SC / ST / PwBD / Third Gender₹1,000

Candidates are advised to use high-speed internet and avoid the final hours of March 11 to prevent a repeat of the digital traffic jams seen last week. For regular updates and a direct link to the portal, follow Only Education News.

Mandatory Checklist for Last-Minute Applicants

To ensure your application is not rejected, double-check the following requirements before hitting submit:

  • Aadhaar Authentication: Ensure your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar for the mandatory OTP verification.
  • Photograph Specifications: Use a recent photo taken after January 1, 2026, with a white background and 80% face coverage.
  • Finger & Thumb Impressions: Both left and right-hand impressions must be clear and uploaded in the specified format.

What Happens After March 11?

Once the extended registration window closes, the NTA will initiate the Correction Window. While the exact dates are being finalized, it is expected to open shortly after the registration deadline. During this phase, students can edit specific fields such as their category, exam city preference, and uploaded documents. However, core details like your name, date of birth, and contact information will remain locked.

Exam Readiness: May 3, 2026

Despite the shift in the registration timeline, the NEET UG 2026 exam date remains Sunday, May 3, 2026. The test will be conducted in a single shift from 02:00 PM to 05:20 PM in an offline, pen-and-paper format across 500+ cities in India and abroad.

As high school students enter the final stretch of their preparation, focusing on the rationalized NCERT syllabus and solving previous years' questions is vital. Remember, the competition is at an all-time high, and every mark counts in the race for a seat in India’s premier medical institutions.
