659 New Seats Added to the Round 2 Matrix
MCC issued the round 2 seat matrix on September 4, adding 659 new MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing seats — spread across the clear-vacancy list (11,302 seats) and the virtual-vacancy list (12,283 seats). A further 30 MBBS seats were added on September 5 based on fresh information from participating institutes: 15 at Bagalkote Medical College and Research Institute, 7 at Government Medical College, Chapra (Saran), and 8 at Shri Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital, Samastipur — all under the All India Quota, spread across UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwD categories. Freeze, Float and Withdrawal Options
Candidates unhappy with their allotted seat can choose to "float" into the next round instead of joining, but must still report to the allotted institute within the counselling deadline if they intend to keep that option open, or the seat is cancelled. For 2026, MCC has also introduced a seat-upgradation option that lets some candidates skip physical reporting altogether — a change aimed at cutting unnecessary travel and paperwork for students who don't intend to join their current allotment. Seats allotted in Round 3 cannot be resigned or surrendered, and once a seat is surrendered or resigned, the candidate has no further claim on it; any applicable refund is processed only after all counselling rounds conclude.
