MCC issued the round 2 seat matrix on September 4, adding 659 new MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing seats — spread across the clear-vacancy list (11,302 seats) and the virtual-vacancy list (12,283 seats). A further 30 MBBS seats were added on September 5 based on fresh information from participating institutes: 15 at Bagalkote Medical College and Research Institute, 7 at Government Medical College, Chapra (Saran), and 8 at Shri Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital, Samastipur — all under the All India Quota, spread across UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwD categories. Candidates can exercise choice filling for these newly added seats.

| SC | 15% |
| ST | 7.5% |

Based on trends from earlier rounds, expected general-category cutoffs for government MBBS admission are running around 615–630+ for the All India Quota, 590–610+ for State Quota seats, and 700–715+ for AIIMS institutes — these are indicative ranges based on this cycle's counselling activity so far, not officially declared cutoffs.
MCC Counselling vs. State Counselling
| MCC Counselling | State Counselling |
|---|---|
| Conducted by MCC | Conducted by individual state authorities |
| Covers 15% All India Quota seats | Covers 85% state quota seats |
| Includes AIIMS, JIPMER, deemed universities | Covers state government and private colleges |
| National-level process | State-level process |
Freeze, Float and Withdrawal Options
Candidates unhappy with their allotted seat can choose to "float" into the next round instead of joining, but must still report to the allotted institute within the counselling deadline if they intend to keep that option open, or the seat is cancelled. For 2026, MCC has also introduced a seat-upgradation option that lets some candidates skip physical reporting altogether — a change aimed at cutting unnecessary travel and paperwork for students who don't intend to join their current allotment. Seats allotted in Round 3 cannot be resigned or surrendered, and once a seat is surrendered or resigned, the candidate has no further claim on it; any applicable refund is processed only after all counselling rounds conclude.

What Happens Next
After the September 11 result, candidates report to their allotted institute between September 12 and 18 — the deadline that applies across All India Quota, deemed/central university, and state counselling seats alike. Institutes then verify joined-candidate data by September 19. For MBBS courses, the new academic session is expected to begin around September 15, though some institutes have flagged that the compressed counselling timeline this year could affect orientation and foundation-course scheduling.
