The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced a new tie-breaking rule for NEET UG 2025 to resolve instances where candidates obtain equal marks. An independent expert panel will now determine ranks through a "random process" in such cases.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a revised tie-breaking policy for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2025, scheduled for May 4, 2025. This policy aims to establish a clear and systematic method for determining ranks among candidates who achieve identical scores.

Tie-Breaking Criteria

In cases where two or more candidates secure the same marks or percentile scores, the following criteria will be applied sequentially:

Biology Marks: Candidates with higher marks or percentile scores in Biology (Botany and Zoology) will be ranked higher.

Chemistry Marks: If the tie persists, the candidate with higher marks or percentile scores in Chemistry will be given preference.

Physics Marks: Should the tie continue, the candidate with higher marks or percentile scores in Physics will be considered.

Accuracy Ratio: If the tie remains unresolved, the candidate with a lower proportion of incorrect answers to correct answers across all subjects will be favored.

Subject-Specific Accuracy: If the tie still exists, the accuracy ratio will be evaluated separately for each subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), with preference given to the candidate with a lower proportion of incorrect answers in the respective subject.

Implementation of Independent Expert Panel

To ensure fairness and transparency, the NTA has established an independent expert panel responsible for resolving any remaining ties through a "random process." This approach aims to eliminate any potential biases in the tie-breaking procedure.

Conclusion

The introduction of this comprehensive tie-breaking rule by the NTA for NEET UG 2025 is designed to provide a fair and systematic method for ranking candidates with identical scores. Candidates are advised to familiarize themselves with these criteria to understand how their ranks may be determined in such scenarios.
