Today marks a critical juncture for engineering aspirants in Maharashtra as the State Common Entrance Test Cell concludes the online choice-filling process for MHT CET 2025 CAP Round 2. The deadline to submit and lock college and course preferences for admission to B.E./B.Tech programs is August 8, 2025. Candidates who have not yet submitted their choices must do so immediately to ensure they are considered for seat allotment in this round.

The State CET Cell activated the online portal for choice-filling on August 6, following the release of the provisional vacancy position (seat matrix) for Round 2 on August 5. The seat matrix is a vital document that lists the seats that remain unfilled after CAP Round 1, helping candidates make informed decisions about their preferences.

Who Can Participate in CAP Round 2?

This round is open to a wide range of candidates, including:

  1. Fresh Candidates: Those who did not participate in Round 1.
  2. Unallotted Candidates: Aspirants who registered for Round 1 but were not allotted any seat.
  3. Upgradation Candidates: Those who were allotted a seat in Round 1 but chose the "Not Freeze/Betterment" option and want to secure a better seat.
  4. Candidates with Cancelled Admission: Aspirants whose admission was cancelled after reporting in Round 1.

Important Dates for MHT CET 2025 CAP Round 2

  • Display of Provisional Vacant Seats: August 5, 2025
  • Online Choice-Filling and Locking: August 6 to August 8, 2025
  • CAP Round 2 Seat Allotment Result: The provisional seat allotment result is expected to be declared on August 11, 2025.
  • Seat Acceptance: Candidates who are allotted a seat must accept the seat online between August 12 and August 14, 2025.
  • Reporting to Allotted College: The final admission and document verification at the allotted college must be completed between August 12 and August 14, 2025.

How to Fill and Lock Your Choices

The choice-filling process is a strategic and important part of the counselling. Here is a step-by-step guide for aspirants:

  1. Log in to the Portal: Candidates should log in to the official website fe2025.mahacet.org using their application ID and password.
  2. Access the Option Form: On the dashboard, they will find a link to the "Option Form."
  3. Enter Choices: The form displays a list of all participating colleges and their available courses. Candidates must carefully select and prioritize their preferences. It is highly recommended to fill in as many choices as possible to increase the chances of securing a seat.
  4. Lock Choices: After arranging the choices in the preferred order, candidates must save and lock their preferences. Once choices are locked, they cannot be modified. If a candidate fails to lock their choices, the system will automatically lock the saved choices at the final deadline.

Key Considerations Before Finalizing Choices

Aspirants should consider a few key factors before finalizing their preferences:

  • Seat Matrix: Refer to the Round 2 vacant seat list to identify colleges and courses with the most available seats.
  • Previous Year's Cut-offs: Analyze previous years' cut-off ranks to gauge the probability of getting into a particular college and course with their merit rank.
  • Upgradation: Aspirants who opted for betterment in Round 1 should be mindful that if they are allotted a seat in Round 2, their previous seat will be automatically cancelled.

This is the final opportunity for many candidates to secure a seat in their desired engineering college through the MHT CET counselling process. Failure to submit and lock choices by the deadline will result in a candidate not being considered for this round of seat allotment. Aspirants are advised to complete the process without delay and stay updated with the official announcements.
