MBA admission cycles accelerate as GD-PI rounds unfold across campuses

As the month of March 2026 begins, the postgraduate management landscape in India has transitioned into its most high-stakes phase. Following the release of results for major entrance exams like CAT, XAT, and NMAT, the top business schools are now conducting their second-stage selection rounds. This period is often referred to as the "season of interviews," where the focus shifts from raw scores to personality, communication, and leadership potential. For the 2026 enrollment batch, premier institutes like the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) are hosting Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI) across major cities. This selection roadmap is designed to filter the most capable candidates for a limited number of seats, making the current month a critical time for every MBA aspirant to refine their profile and stay alert to the official invite notifications.

IIM CAP and Flagship Interview Schedules for 2026

The Indian Institutes of Management are currently in the middle of their massive selection roadmap, which involves both independent and centralized processes. While the "Old IIMs" like Ahmedabad and Bangalore are finishing their individual interviews, the "New IIMs" are coordinating through the Common Admission Process (CAP) 2026. For students, the month of March is the peak time for these GD-PI rounds, with thousands of candidates traveling to designated centers or joining proctored online sessions.

• IIM CAP 2026: The centralized interview process for the newer IIMs is expected to run through early March, covering over ten participating institutes.
• IIT Kanpur MBA: The institute has confirmed that its GD/PI process will be held from March 13 to March 16, 2026, for the 2026 enrollment batch.
• Final Offers: Most flagship IIMs aim to release their final admission lists by the third week of April or early May.
• Selection Weightage: In this stage, the PI and Written Ability Test (WAT) usually carry between 30% and 50% of the total merit weightage.
• Official Status: Candidates must log in to the IIM CAT Portal or the respective institute's website to check their current shortlist status.

Specialized Management Admissions: TISS and IIFT Updates

For those targeting high-ROI and specialized programs, the official invite for the next rounds has already been sent out. The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has moved away from its traditional TISSNET and now uses CAT 2025 scores for its flagship HRM and ODCL programs. The current postgraduate management cycle at TISS involves a unique Extempore Reflection Test (ERT) alongside the personal interview. Similarly, the IIFT official website has published city-wise schedules for its second-round assessments in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru.

• TISS ERT & PI: The Online Assessment for shortlisted candidates is scheduled to take place from March 9 to March 27, 2026.
• IIFT GD-PI: Candidates in Mumbai and Bengaluru will attend their sessions between March 9 and March 19, 2026.
• MICA GE-PI: The on-campus Group Exercise and Personal Interview rounds start on March 9 in Ahmedabad and move to other cities by late March.
• Document Verification: Candidates must carry original marksheets and work experience certificates to these GD-PI rounds.
• Portfolio Check: For schools like MICA, a creative portfolio or a proposal presentation is a mandatory part of the selection roadmap.

Mandatory Guidelines for Interview Readiness and Documentation

The final phase of the 2026 postgraduate management intake requires students to be technically and administratively ready. Most institutes now require candidates to upload a Detailed Application Form (DAF) or a CV form on the official invite link before they appear for the interview. This data serves as the basis for most questions during the PI. Aspirants should also ensure that their [suspicious link removed] and other government IDs are updated for the mandatory biometric or digital verification steps.

• DAF Submission: Ensure that your work experience letters and graduation degree certificates are scanned and ready for the official invite portal.
• Academic Diversity: Many IIMs provide extra points for students from non-engineering backgrounds during the final enrollment batch calculation.
• Current Affairs: March interviews frequently focus on the Union Budget and global economic trends; stay updated via the Ministry of Finance bulletins.
• Dress Code: Whether online or offline, a professional formal dress code is mandatory for all GD-PI rounds.
• Mock Interviews: Practicing with a mentor or using the official sample topics from the NTA CMAT portal can help improve clarity.

Conclusion

The acceleration of the postgraduate management admission cycle this March marks the final hurdle for the 2026 enrollment batch. By attending your GD-PI rounds with preparation and confidence, you can turn your high entrance score into a final admission offer. The selection roadmap is rigorous, but it ensures that only the best future managers join the prestigious classrooms of the IIMs and other top B-schools.
