Which MD specialities gained seats
For candidates comparing colleges, the intake for a preferred speciality matters more than a college-wide increase. The state reported the following speciality-level changes:
| College | MD speciality | Earlier seats | Updated seats |
|---|---|---|---|
| GMC Aurangabad | Physiology | 3 | 21 |
| GMC Aurangabad | Biochemistry | 2 | 17 |
| GMC Aurangabad | Community Medicine | 12 | 22 |
| IGMC Nagpur | Pathology | 4 | 15 |
| GMC Kolhapur | Anaesthesiology | 4 | 14 |
At Aurangabad, the increases in physiology and biochemistry alone account for 33 of the college's 73 additional seats. Other specialities that gained seats across Maharashtra include general medicine, paediatrics, radiodiagnosis, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, and orthopaedics.
How NEET PG 2026 candidates should use these figures
The figures show how many students a college has approval to admit in each course. For example, Kolhapur's updated intake of 14 anaesthesiology seats means the college can admit 14 students in that course for the year.
When filling choices, candidates should:
Use the seat list for their specific counselling round to check which seats they can select.
Look for the college, speciality and quota together — not the college-wide total alone.
Remember that the number available in a particular round can differ from the college's approved annual intake.
NMC direction on the latest seat list
The National Medical Commission has directed counselling authorities to use its latest seat list and refer any differences to its Medical Assessment and Rating Board. For Maharashtra applicants, the state's college and course figures add detail to the national update issued on November 6, 2025.
What candidates should do next?
Track the official state counselling portal and the NMC seat list for the 2026–27 cycle.
Cross-check approved intake against round-wise seat availability before locking choices.
Prioritise speciality-level intake over college-level totals when ranking preferences.
