The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the tentative JEE Main 2027 Session 1 dates in its examination calendar. Session 1 will be held on January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, 2027, with January 31, 2027 kept as a buffer date. The registration dates and the detailed information bulletin have not been announced yet.

Exam dayDateWeekday
Day 1January 22, 2027Friday
Day 2January 23, 2027Saturday
Day 3January 24, 2027Sunday
Day 4January 28, 2027Thursday
Day 5January 29, 2027Friday
Day 6January 30, 2027Saturday
Buffer dateJanuary 31, 2027Sunday

The NTA calendar lists JEE Main Session 1 as a six-day examination. The buffer date is kept in reserve. NTA says the dates are tentative and may change for administrative, academic, statutory or logistical reasons.

What is confirmed and what is still awaited

Confirmed in the calendar

  • Session 1 (January) dates: January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, 2027.
  • Buffer date: January 31, 2027.

Not yet announced

  • The exact registration start and last dates.
  • The detailed JEE Main 2027 information bulletin.
  • Session 2 dates. The 2027 calendar currently includes only Session 1 dates. Session 2 is generally held in April, but NTA has not confirmed that for 2027.

When will JEE Main 2027 registration start?

NTA has not announced the registration dates. Reports expect the Session 1 application process to begin around the last week of October 2026. This is an expectation based on the previous cycle, not an official date.

In the previous cycle, the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 registration ran from October 31, 2025 to November 27, 2025. Candidates can treat that as a rough guide until NTA issues its own notice.

NTA is expected to release the information bulletin with the application form. It should cover eligibility, application fee, registration process, examination cities, syllabus and pattern.

What candidates should do now

  • Plan revision and mock tests around the January 22–30, 2027 window.
  • Keep basic documents and details ready, so the application is not delayed. In earlier cycles these included a live photograph, a scanned passport-size photograph and a signature. Category certificate details were also needed for reserved-category candidates [VERIFY against the 2027 bulletin].
  • Watch for NTA advisories before registration. In September 2025, NTA issued an advisory on updating Aadhaar, UDID and category certificates before filling the application form. Check whether a similar advisory is issued this year.
  • Rely on official notices for dates, fees and eligibility.

Why JEE Main matters

JEE Main is held in two sessions. It is used for admission to engineering programmes at NITs and other centrally funded institutes, and it is the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, the route to the IITs. The better of the two NTA scores is used for rank calculation. That applies to earlier cycles, so confirm it in the 2027 bulletin [VERIFY].

Candidates should check both for the calendar, public notices and the bulletin, once released.
