JEE Main 2027 Dates Overlap With Maharashtra HSC Practical Exams; Parents Seek Schedule Solution
Published 21 Sept 20266 min read
The JEE Main 2027 Session 1 examination window overlaps with the Maharashtra HSC Class 12 practical, graded, oral and internal assessment schedule, prompting concerns among students preparing for both examinations. Parents have reportedly approached the authorities seeking a solution for candidates who may be allotted overlapping dates. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has scheduled JEE Main 2027 Session 1 on January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, 2027, with January 31 kept as a buffer date. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has scheduled HSC practical, graded, oral and internal assessment examinations from January 20 to February 6, 2027. The overlap covers all six scheduled JEE Main Session 1 examination dates. However, this does not mean that every Maharashtra HSC student will have a practical examination on the same day as JEE Main. The board has announced a window for these assessments, while the detailed schedules are to be handled separately by schools and junior colleges.
JEE Main 2027 and Maharashtra HSC Practical Dates
The schedules currently available are:
Examination | Schedule |
| JEE Main 2027 Session 1 | January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, 2027 |
| JEE Main buffer date | January 31, 2027 |
| Maharashtra HSC practical, graded, oral and internal assessment | January 20 to February 6, 2027 |
| Maharashtra HSC theory examination | February 8 to March 16, 2027 |
The NTA examination calendar identifies January 31 as a buffer date for JEE Main Session 1. NTA's detailed 2027 information bulletin is expected to provide further examination-related instructions. MSBSHSE has also clarified that the January 20 to February 6 period is the examination window for HSC practical, graded, oral and internal evaluation. The detailed subject-wise schedule is to be released separately.
Why the Overlap Matters for Maharashtra Students
The issue is particularly relevant to Class 12 students appearing for JEE Main while completing their Maharashtra HSC requirements. A student whose practical or oral assessment is scheduled on the same date as their allotted JEE Main examination could face a scheduling problem. At the same time, the present announcements do not establish that such an overlap will occur for every JEE Main candidate in Maharashtra. The final practical date for an individual student will depend on the schedule followed by the respective school or junior college.
Parents Suggest Changes to HSC Practical Schedule
Reports indicate that parents have sought coordination between MSBSHSE and NTA to prevent affected students from having to manage both examinations on the same day.
Among the suggestions reported are:
- Conducting Maharashtra HSC Science practicals earlier, potentially in late December 2026 or early January 2027.
- Creating a special practical or re-examination window for students whose practical dates overlap with JEE Main.
- Exploring an alternative JEE Main examination arrangement for affected candidates.
These are suggestions raised by parents and are not announced measures by NTA or MSBSHSE.
Maharashtra HSC Theory Exams From February 8
The Maharashtra Board has announced that the HSC written examinations will be conducted from February 8 to March 16, 2027. The practical, graded, oral and internal assessment window will precede the theory examinations, running from January 20 to February 6. The board has said the probable examination dates were announced to help schools, junior colleges and students plan academic activities. The detailed subject-wise timetable will be issued separately.

Has JEE Main 2027 Been Rescheduled?
No. There is currently no official announcement confirming a change to the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 dates because of the Maharashtra HSC practical schedule. Similarly, there is no official announcement confirming that MSBSHSE has moved its HSC practical assessment window in response to the concerns. Students should therefore continue preparing according to the published schedules and check the official NTA JEE Main website and MSBSHSE website for any subsequent notification. The official JEE Main portal currently provides the examination schedule and public notices, while the Maharashtra Board website carries its latest HSC examination notifications.
What Students Should Do Now
Until an official change is announced, Maharashtra HSC students preparing for JEE Main should:
- Keep track of their school's or junior college's practical schedule.
- Monitor the JEE Main city intimation slip and admit card when released.
- Check the official NTA and MSBSHSE websites for notifications.
- Inform their school or junior college promptly if an actual date overlap is assigned.
- Avoid relying on social media claims about rescheduling unless the change is confirmed by the concerned authority.
