The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 examinations have officially concluded today, January 31, 2026, marking the end of a high-stakes testing window for nearly 14.5 lakh students. As the National Testing Agency prepares the provisional answer keys, candidates are now shifting their focus toward the upcoming results and the Session 2 registration. Read about the exam analysis and the expected result dates here. The first phase of India’s premier engineering entrance, JEE Main 2026 Session 1, has officially come to an end today, January 31, 2026. Following a series of shifts that began on January 21, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has successfully conducted the exam across hundreds of cities in India and abroad. With the final Paper 2A and 2B (B.Arch and B.Planning) exams wrapping up today, the focus of over 14.5 lakh candidates now shifts to the release of the provisional answer keys and the eventual scorecards.

Preliminary feedback from candidates across the 10-day testing window suggests a balanced difficulty level. While Physics was generally reported as the most scoring and formula-driven section, Mathematics continued its trend of being lengthy and calculation-intensive. Chemistry remained primarily NCERT-focused, providing much-needed relief to students who had studied the textbooks thoroughly.

  • Physics: Moderate to easy; focused on Electrodynamics and Mechanics.
  • Chemistry: Easy; heavy emphasis on Organic and Inorganic Chemistry from NCERT.
  • Mathematics: Difficult; multi-concept questions in Calculus and Algebra.
  • Overall Trend: Similar to the 2025 pattern, with a slight increase in assertion-reasoning questions.

Next Steps: Answer Key Challenges and Result Dates

The NTA is expected to release the provisional answer keys within the first week of February. Candidates will be given a 48-to-72-hour window to challenge any discrepancies by paying a non-refundable processing fee. The final result, which will display the NTA percentile score for each subject and the total, is tentatively scheduled for release by February 12, 2026.

  • Provisional Key Release: Expected by February 4, 2026.
  • Challenge Window: February 4 to February 6, 2026.
  • Result Declaration: By February 12, 2026, on the official NTA website.
  • Score Calculation: Based on the normalisation process to account for shift variations.

Registration for Session 2 and JEE Advanced Eligibility

Even as Session 1 concludes, the JEE Main 2026 journey is far from over. The registration for the April session (Session 2) is set to open today or early tomorrow. This provides an opportunity for students to improve their scores or for those who missed the first attempt to appear. The best of the two scores will be considered for the final All India Rank (AIR), which will be used for admission into NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

  • Session 2 Registration: Opening January 31/February 1, 2026.
  • Session 2 Exam Dates: April 2 to April 9, 2026.
  • JEE Advanced: The top 2.5 lakh candidates will qualify for the exam on May 17, 2026.
  • Counselling: Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will begin the process in June.

Conclusion

With the conclusion of the JEE Main 2026 Session 1, the first major academic hurdle of the year has been cleared. While students wait for their results, many are already planning their strategy for the second session to boost their percentiles. The NTA has maintained a high standard of security and transparency throughout the session. As the official portal prepares for the next phase, candidates are advised to keep their application numbers handy and keep a close eye on the upcoming announcements regarding the answer keys and the Session 2 registration window.
