In a crucial development for millions of aspiring engineers and architects, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the application form for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 1. The online registration window is now active on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. This announcement marks the beginning of the journey for high-school students aiming for admission to top-tier engineering, architecture, and planning programs across India, including the prestigious NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). Aspirants must note the strict deadline for submission, as the application window closes on November 27, 2025 (up to 9:00 PM), with the last date for fee payment extending till 11:50 PM on the same day.

Key Dates and Examination Schedule

The NTA has confirmed that the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 will be conducted between January 21 and January 30, 2026. As is the standard practice, the exam will be held in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across multiple shifts and a vast network of examination cities. The two-session format for JEE Main 2026, with the second session scheduled for April 1 to April 10, 2026, offers candidates two opportunities to maximize their score, with the best score considered for final merit and eligibility for JEE Advanced. The announcement of the allotted Examination City is anticipated by the first week of January 2026.

Application Process and New Guidelines

Filling the application form requires careful adherence to the steps outlined by the NTA. The process involves four main stages: Registration, filling out the detailed Application Form, Uploading Scanned Documents (including a live photograph capture via webcam), and finally, Fee Payment.

A significant update this year is the emphasis on data accuracy, particularly regarding the Aadhaar Card details. Candidates' basic information—Name, Date of Birth, Gender, and Photograph—will be authenticated with the Aadhaar database. Aspirants must ensure their Aadhaar and Class 10/12 documents are consistent to avoid discrepancies later on. Furthermore, NTA has confirmed the application of the 75% criterion (or being in the top 20 percentile) in the Class 12 board examination for admission to NITs and IIITs.

For students targeting different courses, JEE Main is held for two papers: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) for engineering programs, and Paper 2A (B.Arch.) and Paper 2B (B.Planning) for architecture and planning. Candidates can opt for one or both papers. The detailed Information Bulletin, including the syllabus and revised examination pattern, is available on the official website.

Crucial Advice for Engineering Aspirants

All prospective candidates are strongly advised to read the official Information Bulletin carefully before proceeding with the application. Mistakes in the application form can lead to rejection or significant issues during counselling. Since the application is only for Session 1 currently, aspirants are reminded that the window for Session 2 registration will open later, after the completion of the January session. Students preparing for the January attempt should now intensify their revision and practice, focusing on the core concepts of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
