The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has officially released the detailed schedule for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026. Today, February 5, 2026, the institute confirmed that the national-level entrance test will be conducted on Sunday, May 17, 2026. This high-stakes examination is the final step for students aiming to secure a place in the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology. As the organizing body, IIT Roorkee has specified that the examination will strictly follow a computer-based test (CBT) format, consisting of two mandatory three-hour papers conducted on the same day.

Eligibility and Registration Framework

To qualify for the examination, candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 performers in the JEE Main 2026 BE/BTech paper. The shortlisting follows a rigid category-wise distribution, with specific percentages reserved for EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST candidates. According to the current schedule, the online registration portal for eligible candidates will open on April 23, 2026, following the declaration of the JEE Main results.

  • Age Limit: Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2001 (with a 5-year relaxation for SC/ST/PwD).
  • Attempts: A student can attempt the examination a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
  • IISc Inclusion: Notably, the official JEE Advanced website has confirmed the inclusion of IISc Bengaluru in the JoSAA 2026 seat allocation process.

Examination Pattern and Timings

The May 17 schedule consists of Paper 1 in the morning and Paper 2 in the afternoon. Both papers are compulsory, and failure to appear in either will result in the candidate being disqualified from the merit list. The examination tests the candidate's advanced understanding of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics through a mix of multiple-choice, numerical, and matrix-match questions.

  • Paper 1: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM IST.
  • Paper 2: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM IST.
  • Response Sheets: Digital copies of candidate responses will be available by May 21 per the official schedule.

Conclusion

With the date now officially set, the countdown for the JEE Advanced 2026 has begun. Aspirants can download the official syllabus and view previous year papers on the IIT Roorkee portal. Adhering to the prescribed schedule for registration and document submission is the only way to ensure a seat at the nation’s premier engineering institutes. Successful completion of this examination will lead to the JoSAA counselling phase starting in June.
