The Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2025 being conducted by the IIT Delhi started. While the dust has not yet settled on the examination, candidates are waiting keenly for the question paper, the solutions, and the answer key to evaluate their performance.
IIT JAM 2025 Chemistry (CY) Exam Pattern
IIT JAM Chemistry (CY) 2025 paper consists of 60 questions in total, categorized as follows:
- 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) - There are four options provided for each question, of which one is correct. A negatively weighted answer attracts a penalty for wrong answers.
- 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)- Candidates are required to select one or more correct options. No negative marking.
- 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions- Candidates are required to type out their numerical answers. There is no negative marking.
- The overall examination is out of a total of 100 marks with sections for questions weighing 1 mark and 2 marks respectively.
Difficulty Level of IIT JAM 2025 Chemistry (CY) Exam
As has been seen over the years and gleaned from the first reactions of some students, the IIT JAM Chemistry (CY) 2025 exam is expected to be on the easy side with perhaps an occasional moderately tough question thrown in. The conceptual depth of questions may vary, but for candidates who really have prepared for the examination according to the IIT JAM syllabus, the paper should not prove too difficult.
Based on past trends, the section-wise expected difficulty level is as given below:
- Physical Chemistry-Moderate difficulty, a mix of conceptual and numerical questions
- Organic Chemistry-Easy to moderately difficult, based on reaction mechanisms and concept-oriented.
- Inorganic Chemistry-Moderate, heavy on periodic trends and coordination chemistry.

The official IIT JAM 2025 Chemistry (CY) answer key will very soon be available on the official website, jam.iitd.ac.in, by IIT Delhi. Provisionally, the candidates are now able to download the answer key and compare their answers to get a rough estimate of their score.
After the examination, coaching institutes and experts will come up with an unofficial answer key and solutions that will help students to analyze their performances while awaiting the official answer key.

What Comes Next After IIT JAM 2025?
Post the release of the answer key, any objections against the wrong answers can be raised within the stipulated time. After judging the challenges raised, IIT Delhi shall announce the final answer key to be with the IIT JAM 2025 result sometime in March 2025.
Candidates qualifying for JAM will be called for admission into M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., and other post-graduate programs for IITs, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and other participating institutes.
