IISER IAT 2026 Round 8 Seat Allotment Result Out; Accept Offer by September 7

The IISER IAT 2026 Round 8 seat allotment result has been released on September 5, 2026. Candidates participating in the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research admission process can check their admission offer through the official IISER Admissions 2026 portal. IISER Berhampur is the organising institute for IAT 2026 and the Joint Admissions Committee 2026 admission process. Candidates receiving an offer in Round 8 must complete the applicable seat-acceptance formalities by September 7, 2026.

IISER IAT 2026 Round 8 Seat Allotment: Important Dates

Candidates should complete the admission process within the prescribed counselling window rather than waiting until the last moment.

The admission portal and respective IISER websites should be checked regularly for institute-specific reporting and document-verification instructions.

Which IISERs Remain in Round 8?

Round 8 has a much smaller pool of available admission options because admissions at five IISERs had already closed during earlier counselling rounds. The remaining Round 8 activity is associated with IISER Berhampur and IISER Tirupati, while admissions at the following IISERs had already closed:

Official IISER admission updates show that IISER Pune closed after Round 3, IISER Kolkata and IISER Mohali after Round 5, IISER Bhopal after Round 6 and IISER Thiruvananthapuram after Round 7. Candidates should check the current portal for the programme specifically offered to them, because availability is determined at the academic-programme level rather than only at the institute level.

How to Check IISER IAT 2026 Round 8 Seat Allotment Result

Candidates can check their Round 8 admission offer online through the IISER admission portal.

1. Open the official IISER Admissions 2026 portal.
2. Access the candidate login or Round 8 admission-offer section.
3. Enter the required application credentials.
4. Check the admission offer displayed on the dashboard.
5. Download and retain the allotment or offer letter.
6. Read the instructions and acceptance deadline carefully.
7. Current reporting on the Round 8 result states that candidates can access the allotment using their application number and password.

IISER Seat Acceptance Fee 2026

Candidates receiving an admission offer must pay the applicable Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) within the prescribed deadline to accept the offered seat.

The official IAT 2026 brochure specifies the following SAF:

For the ₹35,000 SAF, ₹10,000 is listed as a non-refundable administrative fee. For SC/ST candidates, ₹5,000 of the ₹17,500 SAF is the non-refundable administrative component. Once a candidate registers at the allotted IISER, the applicable SAF is adjusted against the first-semester fee. Fee structures can differ across IISERs.

How to Accept the IISER Round 8 Admission Offer

Candidates who receive an admission offer should log into the admission portal and complete the seat-acceptance process before the deadline. The official counselling rules state that a candidate accepting an offered seat must pay the SAF online within the prescribed timeline. After the seat has been accepted and SAF paid, candidates can use the applicable FREEZE or FLOAT option under the counselling rules.

Candidates should:

• Log into their IISER admission account.
• Check the Round 8 offer carefully.
• Accept the admission offer within the prescribed window.
• Pay the applicable Seat Acceptance Fee online.
• Select the relevant counselling option available on the dashboard.
• Save the payment acknowledgement and admission offer letter.
• Candidates should follow the exact sequence displayed on their own dashboard because portal workflows may be updated during counselling.

What Do FREEZE and FLOAT Mean in IISER Counselling?

• FREEZE means the candidate accepts the currently allotted programme and does not wish to participate in further seat-allocation rounds.
• FLOAT allows an eligible candidate to retain the current accepted offer while remaining under consideration for an academic programme placed higher in their preference list, subject to vacancies and further counselling being conducted.

According to the official 2026 admission brochure, FLOAT is activated by default after SAF payment unless the candidate freezes the seat. Candidates should rely on the options actually displayed on the Round 8 portal because further-round availability is determined by JAC and remaining vacancies.

What Happens if the Seat Acceptance Fee Is Not Paid?

Candidates should not miss the SAF deadline. The official IISER admission brochure states that failure to deposit the Seat Acceptance Fee within the stipulated period results in cancellation of the admission offer. Such candidates are also not considered in subsequent IISER seat-allocation rounds for the 2026 admission process. The brochure also states that requests for extensions to seat-acceptance deadlines will not be entertained.

How Are IISER IAT 2026 Seats Allotted?

IISER seat allotment is not determined by IAT rank alone.

• According to the official admission rules, offers are generated on the basis of:
• seat availability in the academic programme during the current allocation round
• the candidate's IAT 2026 rank
• the candidate's order of programme preferences
• the candidate's category.
• A candidate is considered only for programmes included in the preference list submitted during the admission process.

What Should Round 8 Candidates Do Now?

1. Check the admission offer immediately.
2. Download the offer or allotment letter.
3. Verify the allotted IISER and academic programme.
4. Complete seat acceptance within the Round 8 deadline.
5. Pay the applicable SAF.
6. Save the payment confirmation.
7. Check whether FREEZE or FLOAT is available and appropriate.
8. Follow the allotted IISER's reporting instructions.
9. Keep original certificates and other required admission documents ready.

IISER Reporting and Document Verification

Online allotment does not by itself complete final admission. The official brochure states that admission offers remain provisional and are confirmed only after the candidate reports to the allotted IISER and provides the required original documents. Reporting dates are communicated by the respective IISER. Candidates should therefore check both their registered email account and the allotted institute's admission notices for reporting, document verification and academic-registration instructions. For example, IISER Berhampur had already announced that physical reporting for its 2026–27 BS-MS intake would begin from September 3, 2026, with detailed instructions being communicated to candidates who had accepted and frozen their seats. Candidates receiving a later-round offer should follow the instructions specifically issued for their admission rather than assuming an earlier reporting date applies to them.
