In a significant development for medical aspirants in Gujarat, the cut-off for MBBS seats under the state quota is expected to fall substantially, with projections indicating a drop of up to 100 marks for some categories compared to the previous year. This major shift, as observed in the recently released provisional merit list, is a direct result of several factors that have eased the competition for available seats.

The Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC) released the provisional merit list for all medical and dental courses, bringing a wave of relief to many lower-ranked candidates. While last year's final admission for the open category closed around 430 marks, this year's cut-off is projected to be as low as 330 marks.

Reasons Behind the Anticipated Cut-off Drop:

The primary reasons for this unprecedented drop are twofold:

  1. Fewer High Scorers: The overall performance of candidates in the NEET 2025 exam was notably different this year. While the state's top score was 720 in 2024, the highest mark secured by a Gujarat-domiciled candidate in 2025 was 657, reflecting a lower top-tier performance across the board.
  2. Increased Seats: The state has seen a rise in the number of MBBS seats, with a total of 15,988 seats available across various medical and allied courses. The addition of new medical colleges and the expansion of others have significantly increased the total seat matrix, which directly benefits a larger pool of aspirants.

The provisional merit list was published on July 31, and the final merit list is expected to be released in the coming days, followed by the seat allocation process. Choice-filling for the state quota will begin after August 7, as the All India Quota (AIQ) admissions conclude. Candidates are advised to keep a close watch on the official ACPUGMEC website, medadmgujarat.org, for the latest updates.
