How to apply

- Go to gate2027.iitm.ac.in. and open the registration (GOAPS) link.
- Continue with DigiLocker and enter the required details.

DigiLocker is mandatory for Indian nationals
For the first time, GATE registration needs a DigiLocker account. It applies to Indian nationals only. IIT Madras has allowed candidates to register with an unverified DigiLocker account. Their forms and documents will be scrutinised after the registration window closes.
DigiLocker fetches these details: name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, profile picture, address, and verified ID number. Registration is successful only if the DigiLocker account is linked for GOAPS. Check every fetched field instead of assuming it is correct, since errors in name, date of birth, or category are hard to change later.
Use your name and date of birth exactly as on your photo ID and academic records. No nicknames, initials, or spelling variations. The same ID must be carried to the exam centre, and a mismatch can lead to denied entry. The scorecard is prepared from the registration details.
To create a DigiLocker account:
- Go to digilocker.gov.in and click Login/Register (or use the mobile app).
- Enter your full name as on Aadhaar, date of birth, and gender.
- Enter the mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
- Create a 6-digit security PIN.
- Enter your email ID and set a username and password.
- Submit and enter the OTP sent to your mobile.
- Link Aadhaar and complete Aadhaar OTP verification to unlock all features.
GATE 2027 registration errors and fixes
| Error | Fix |
|---|---|
| "Email already registered" | Happens when two DigiLocker accounts (one verified, one unverified) use the same email. Restart the GATE 2027 consent from the verified account. Change the email ID and restart in an incognito window using the verified account. |
| Address details missing | Usually the DigiLocker mobile number isn't linked to Aadhaar. Update the mobile number and email on DigiLocker, then reapply from scratch in incognito mode. |
| DigiLocker Drive errors (mainly SC/ST/PwD) | "Address Line 1 not available" or "GATE2027 folder not found" usually means folder or file naming rules weren't followed. Create a "GATE2027" folder in DigiLocker Drive, name files exactly CATEGORY.pdf, PWD_CERT.pdf or UDID_CERT.pdf, keep each under 600 KB, and use the same account throughout. |
| DigiLocker Drive access not granted | Revoke the consent and log in again. Allow Drive access when asked. |
| Consent validity modified | Revoke the consent and redo the process without editing the dates. |
| College name error | Remove special characters such as brackets and "&", or type the name manually if it isn't in the list. |
To revoke consent: Log in to DigiLocker, click your profile photo, open Manage your Account Settings, go to My Consents, and revoke GATE-2027. Then log in to the GATE portal again and click Allow when the consent window appears.
GATE 2027 eligibility
Candidates in the third year or final year of a bachelor's degree, or those who have completed it, can apply. This includes candidates waiting for their final-year results. Accepted programmes include Engineering, Technology, Science, Commerce, Arts and Humanities [VERIFY against the brochure]. A candidate who doesn't meet the criteria will have their candidature cancelled.
How to check GATE 2027 application status
- Go to gate2027.iitm.ac.in and open the registration link.
- Continue with DigiLocker and enter the required details. The status will be shown on the screen.
If there is any discrepancy, the authorities will contact you on your registered email ID [VERIFY: one live update says to log in with enrollment ID and password].
What happens next
Complete the form before October 5, 2026, to avoid the late fee, and keep your DigiLocker details correct. Candidates opting for two papers can check the paper combinations on the official site. Two-paper combinations and the IISc Bangalore zone exam cities are covered separately.
