The Chhattisgarh government has implemented significant reforms in its medical admission process for the 2025-26 academic session, aiming to enhance transparency and provide greater opportunities for state domicile candidates. These changes, part of the new Chhattisgarh Medical, Dental and Physiotherapy Undergraduate Admission Rules 2025, are now being applied during the ongoing first round of state-level counselling for MBBS and BDS seats.

The reforms, introduced by the Office of the Commissioner Medical Education (CME), Raipur, focus on streamlining the process, prioritizing local aspirants, and simplifying administrative hurdles for applicants.

Highlights of the Major Reforms:

  1. Priority to Domicile Candidates: In a significant move, the state government has announced that any vacant seats in the management and NRI quotas of private medical colleges will now be filled by eligible candidates with Chhattisgarh domicile, ensuring that local students receive priority for these seats.
  2. Reduction in Bond Service: The mandatory bond service requirement for candidates who secure a government medical seat has been reduced from two years to a minimum of one year. This provides a major relief for students, making the commitment less burdensome after graduation.
  3. Online-Only Counselling: The entire counselling process, from online registration and choice filling to the publication of seat allotment results and even document verification, will now be conducted online. This digital-first approach is intended to increase transparency and convenience for all aspirants.
  4. Simplified Documentation for OBC: The government has simplified the documentation norms for Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates regarding their income certificates, making the verification process less cumbersome.
  5. Flexibility in Counselling Rounds: The new rules allow for fresh registration in each round of counselling, giving candidates who might have missed the initial deadline another opportunity to participate in subsequent rounds.

Impact on Aspirants:

The new rules are a welcome development for medical aspirants in Chhattisgarh. By prioritizing state domicile candidates for vacant private college seats, the government has expanded the pool of opportunities for local students. The reduction in the mandatory bond period also eases a long-standing concern for many.

The state's counselling process for NEET UG 2025 is currently underway, with Round 1 registrations open until August 4, 2025. The publication of the state merit list is scheduled for August 6, with the Round 1 seat allotment results to follow on August 8, 2025.

Candidates are strongly advised to refer to the official portal, cgdme.in, for all official notifications and to ensure they adhere to the new rules while filling out their application forms and college preferences. These reforms mark a pivotal step towards a more equitable and streamlined medical admission system in the state.
