With the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 final registration window now closed on October 9, 2025, the focus immediately shifts for all aspirants from application submission to the crucial Application Scrutiny and Correction Window phase. This stage is vital to ensure your candidature is officially accepted by the organizing body, IIT Guwahati, well before the exams commence in February.

For engineering and technology students who successfully submitted their application, the coming weeks require vigilance regarding their application status. Those who missed the absolute deadline must now look ahead to potential opportunities in subsequent GATE examinations, as the chance to register for the 2026 cycle has officially ended.

What is the GATE 2026 Application Scrutiny?

The applications submitted through the GOAPS portal are currently under official review, or 'scrutiny'. During this process, IIT Guwahati officials verify the correctness of all details provided, including academic qualifications, category certificates (SC/ST/PwD), and adherence to the specified format for uploaded documents like photographs and signatures.

Aspirants must keep checking their dedicated GOAPS dashboard by logging in with their Enrollment ID and password.

  • Status: 'Application Under Scrutiny': This is a standard initial status indicating that your form is in the review queue.
  • Action Required: If any discrepancy is found—such as an improperly uploaded image, an incorrect category, or missing documentation—the candidates will be notified via their registered email ID and contact number. They will be given a specific deadline to upload the corrected details. Failure to comply with this deadline can lead to the rejection of the application.

Application Correction Window: Your Last Chance

Following the initial scrutiny, the window for editing application details will be opened. This facility is a last resort to rectify any non-compliant entries.

Correction Facility Opens (Expected)First Week of November 2025
Last Date for Application CorrectionsNovember 6, 2025

It is crucial to utilize this correction window wisely, as certain changes, such as modifying the chosen primary paper or adding a second paper, will incur an additional fee. Given the application hurdle is cleared, aspirants must prioritize checking their status and preparing for the exam, ensuring they resolve any administrative issues by the November 6 deadline.

The Road to February 2026: Exam Schedule

With the application process concluded, all eyes are now on the examination schedule. The GATE 2026 exam will be held over two weekends in February:

  • GATE 2026 Exam Dates: February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026
  • The exam will be conducted in two shifts each day: Forenoon (9:30 AM to 12:30 PM) and Afternoon (2:30 PM to 5:30 PM).
  • Result Declaration: The results are slated for March 19, 2026.

This year, the exam will be conducted for a total of 30 test papers, including the introduction of a new sectional paper: Energy Science (XE-I) under the Engineering Sciences category. Eligible candidates, including those in their 3rd year or higher of an undergraduate degree program, must now utilize the remaining months for rigorous preparation to maximize their performance.
