The WBJEE remains one of the most competitive state-level engineering entrance exams, providing a gateway to Undergraduate Courses in Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, and Architecture. High school students in their final year (Class 12) and droppers should mark this date on their calendars to ensure their preparation timeline aligns with the board's schedule.

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) has officially released the detailed notification for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2026. This announcement is a major milestone for engineering aspirants across the country who are eyeing seats in prestigious institutions like Jadavpur University, Calcutta University, and various private and government engineering colleges in West Bengal. According to the official communiqué, the OMR-based entrance test is scheduled to be conducted on May 24, 2026.

Examination Schedule and Paper Pattern

The WBJEE 2026 will be held in a single day across two shifts. The exam is divided into two mandatory papers:

  • Paper I (Mathematics): 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
  • Paper II (Physics & Chemistry): 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Candidates must appear in both papers to be eligible for a General Merit Rank (GMR), which is used for admission to all engineering, technology, and architecture courses. Those who appear only in Paper II will only be eligible for a Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR). The questions will be multiple-choice (MCQ) type, categorized into three levels with varying marking schemes and negative marking rules.

Application Process and Important Dates

The online application process is expected to commence in the final week of December 2025 or the first week of January 2026. Candidates will need to register on the official portal, wbjeeb.nic.in, using a valid mobile number and email ID.

Key tentative dates for WBJEE 2026:

  • Online Registration: December 2025 – January 2026
  • Form Correction Window: February 2026
  • Admit Card Release: Second week of May 2026
  • Exam Date: May 24, 2026
  • Result Declaration: June 2026

Aspirants are advised to keep their scanned documents, including photographs and signatures, ready as per the specifications mentioned in the information bulletin. For regular updates on registration links and syllabus changes, follow Only Education News.

Eligibility Criteria for Aspirants

To apply for WBJEE 2026, candidates must be citizens of India or OCI candidates. While there is no upper age limit for engineering courses, the minimum age must be 17 years as of December 31, 2026. Furthermore, candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Computer Science as compulsory subjects.

A crucial point for out-of-state students is the domicile requirement. While many private engineering colleges and specific seats in government colleges are open to all-India candidates, a significant portion of seats in premier government institutes like Jadavpur University is reserved for candidates with West Bengal domicile.

Preparation Strategy for WBJEE 2026

Success in WBJEE requires a blend of speed and conceptual clarity. Unlike JEE Main, which is computer-based, WBJEE remains an offline OMR-based test. Students should practice filling OMR sheets to avoid technical errors during the exam. The syllabus primarily covers the Class 11 and Class 12 curriculum of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) and CBSE/ISC boards.

Focusing on high-weightage topics in Mathematics, such as Calculus and Coordinate Geometry, is essential. In Physics and Chemistry, a thorough understanding of the basics can help in tackling the Category 2 and Category 3 questions, which often carry higher marks.
