In a crucial development for medical and dental aspirants in Uttar Pradesh, the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) has officially opened the registration and choice-filling portal for the second round of NEET UG 2025 counselling. This round is particularly vital for candidates who were not allotted a seat in the first round or those who wish to upgrade their current seat. Aspirants must complete their registration and meticulously fill their choices by the specified deadline.

According to the official schedule, the online registration for the second round of counselling will remain open until August 26, 2025, with the payment facility also available until the same day. Following a brief registration period, the choice-filling and locking window has been active from August 21, 2025, until August 26, 2025. It is imperative for all eligible candidates to complete this process within the given timeframe, as no extensions will be granted. For all the latest news and updates, follow Only Education News.

Who is Eligible for Round 2?

The second round of counselling is open to several categories of candidates, providing a fresh opportunity to a wide range of aspirants. The eligibility criteria are as follows:

  1. New Registrants: Candidates who did not register or participate in the first round of counselling can now register and participate for the first time.
  2. Candidates with No Allotment: Aspirants who registered for Round 1 but were not allotted any seat are eligible to participate in Round 2 without needing to re-register.
  3. Upgrading Candidates: Those who were allotted a seat in Round 1 and accepted it with the option to upgrade can participate to secure a better college or course.
  4. Resigned Candidates: Aspirants who joined their Round 1 seat but have resigned before the stipulated deadline, without forfeiture of their security deposit, are also eligible.

Candidates who have already secured a seat and joined a college in Round 1 and have not opted for an upgrade are not eligible to participate in this round.

Important Dates and Key Steps

The DMET has laid out a clear schedule for the second round of counselling, and aspirants must follow each step carefully.

  • Registration and Payment: August 21 to August 26, 2025
  • Choice Filling and Locking: August 21 to August 26, 2025 (with locking available from 4 PM on the last day)
  • Seat Allotment Result: August 29, 2025
  • Reporting to Allotted College: August 30 to September 5, 2025

The choice-filling stage is arguably the most crucial step. Aspirants are advised to fill in as many choices as possible, prioritizing their most preferred institutions. This increases the chances of securing a seat, even if the top-ranked choices are unavailable.

Candidates who are allotted a seat in this round must report to their respective colleges for physical document verification and admission. It is essential to have all original documents, including the NEET UG 2025 scorecard, Class 10th and 12th certificates, domicile certificate, and a valid photo ID, ready for submission.
