The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu, has released a crucial notification for candidates who were allotted seats during the Round 2 of TN MBBS/BDS Admissions 2025. This update is vital for all medical and dental aspirants as it sets a definitive deadline for resignation from the allotted seats without forfeiture of the security deposit.

Candidates who have been provisionally allotted a seat in the second round of counselling have a final opportunity to resign from their seat by 5:00 PM on October 9, 2025. This short window is a critical period for aspirants re-evaluating their choices before the seats are permanently locked in for the subsequent admission phases, including the Mop-Up round.

The Critical Resignation Deadline

The notice clarifies that this resignation deadline is the last chance for Round 2 allottees to exit the process without penalty. Candidates must understand the implications of their decision:

  1. Resignation Before the Deadline (October 9, 2025): If a candidate chooses to resign before this date, they will be permitted to do so, and their entire security deposit paid at the time of registration will be refunded. However, resigning candidates will not be eligible to participate in any subsequent rounds of counselling for the current academic year, including the Mop-Up and Stray Vacancy rounds for MBBS/BDS seats.
  2. Failure to Resign/Joining the Seat: Candidates who do not resign by the deadline and also fail to join the allotted college will face a significant consequence. Not only will they forfeit their entire security deposit, but they will also be barred from participating in any further counselling conducted by the DME, TN, for the 2025-26 academic session.
  3. Joining the Allotted College: Candidates who report to the college and complete the admission formalities are considered joined. Once joined, resignation is not generally permitted, securing the seat and freeing up their counselling position.

Implications for Medical Aspirants

This notification is a key move to finalize the seat matrix and facilitate the immediate commencement of the Mop-Up round. For aspirants who might have secured better seats in the All India Quota (AIQ) or seats in other states' counselling, this date provides a chance to withdraw gracefully from the Tamil Nadu state quota without losing their security amount. It also prepares the ground for the remaining vacancies to be clearly identified and offered to other deserving candidates in the upcoming rounds.

The DME has explicitly stated that candidates who have resigned after the first round of counselling are automatically disqualified from participating in any further rounds of TN MBBS/BDS admissions this year. Aspirants must exercise utmost caution and consult all relevant information before making a decision on resignation.

For detailed guidelines on the admission process, the various medical courses available, and updates on the next phase of counselling, aspiring students should frequently check the official DME website.
