TANCET 2026 Registration Delay Continues Amid Administrative Developments

Usually, the official notification for the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test is released by the end of January or the first week of February. However, this year, the process has faced an unusual delay. As of today, February 23, the application window on the official TANCET portal has not yet been activated by Anna University.

The delay in the entrance test schedule is reportedly due to ongoing administrative developments and staff protests at Anna University, Chennai. Reports suggest that protests by temporary assistant professors and other administrative hurdles have slowed down the usual workflow. This has directly impacted the timeline for releasing the 2026 information brochure and the online registration link for MBA and MCA aspirants.

Current Status of the Application Process

While the university has not provided a specific date, education experts believe the registration window might open in the last week of February or early March. In previous years, students were given a full month to complete their forms. If the notification arrives late, the university may have to adjust the final exam date to ensure students have enough time to prepare.

Candidates are advised to keep their academic documents ready so they can apply quickly once the link is live. To register for the TANCET 2026, a student will need a valid email ID, a mobile number, and scanned copies of their photograph and signature. Since the exam is held in an offline (pen-and-paper) mode, choosing the right exam center during the application process is very important.

Eligibility and Exam Highlights

The TANCET 2026 remains the primary gateway for students seeking admission into MBA and MCA programs in government and self-financing colleges across Tamil Nadu. To be eligible, a candidate must have a recognized bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks (45% for reserved categories). Final-year students are also allowed to apply, provided they complete their degree by the time of counselling.

Conclusion

The delay in the TANCET 2026 notification has caused some anxiety among aspirants, but the university is expected to normalize the schedule shortly. Students should use this extra time to focus on the five main sections of the MBA paper: Data Sufficiency, Quantitative Aptitude, Reading Comprehension, Business Situations, and General English. Once the administrative issues are resolved, the university will likely release a revised calendar for the registration, admit card release, and the final entrance test.
