The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu, has reached a critical stage in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Super Speciality (NEET SS) 2025–26 admission cycle. Following the conclusion of the nationwide Round 1 reporting window on March 25, the state is now finalizing the list of joined and non-joined candidates. This reporting phase was mandatory for candidates who were successfully allotted seats in the first round of the Super Speciality (DM, MCh, and DrNB) counselling process.

As of today, March 27, 2026, the focus has shifted toward the mapping of vacant seats. Educational institutions across Tamil Nadu, including top-tier government medical colleges, are uploading their vacancy data to the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) portal. This process is necessary to determine the seat matrix for the upcoming second round of admissions.

Current Status of Super-Speciality Admissions

The Round 1 seat allotment result was previously declared by the MCC on March 18, 2026. Following the result, candidates were given a fixed period to download their allotment orders and report to their designated medical colleges for document verification and fee payment. While the national reporting deadline ended two days ago, the transition to Round 2 is already underway.

The table below outlines the current status and the upcoming timeline for the NEET SS 2025–26 counselling process:

Guidelines for Round 2 Participation

With the Round 2 registration window scheduled to open tomorrow, March 28, candidates who did not secure a seat or those seeking an upgrade must remain vigilant. It is important to note that the "Free Exit" option is not available in the NEET SS counselling framework. If a candidate is allotted a seat in Round 1 and fails to join, their security deposit is forfeited.

Candidates who have already joined their Round 1 college but wish to participate in Round 2 for a better specialty or a different location must have indicated their willingness for "upgradation" during the Round 1 admission formalities. Fresh registrations will also be permitted for those who did not register in the first round or those who were not allotted any seat.

Document Verification and Final Joining

The admission process is only considered complete once the original documents are verified by the respective medical colleges. For the 215 state-quota super-specialty seats in Tamil Nadu, candidates are required to submit their MBBS and MD/MS/DNB degree certificates along with their NEET SS 2025 scorecard.

The state authorities are expected to release the final vacancy position for Tamil Nadu colleges just before the Round 2 choice-filling begins on March 29. Aspirants are advised to regularly check the official MCC and Tamil Nadu Medical Selection websites for the updated seat matrix.

Conclusion

The completion of the Round 1 reporting phase marks the end of the first major hurdle in the 2025–26 super-specialty admission cycle. As the vacancy reports are finalized today, the attention of thousands of specialists turns toward the Round 2 registration starting tomorrow. The structured approach of the MCC and state DME ensures that critical super-specialty seats in branches like Cardiology and Neurosurgery are allocated effectively.
