Today, July 30, 2025, marks a pivotal day for lakhs of NEET UG 2025 qualified candidates across India, as the counselling process for 85% State Quota seats for MBBS and BDS admissions officially begins in various states. Following the conclusion of All India Quota (AIQ) registration and with seat allotment processing underway, state medical counselling authorities are now taking the reins to fill a significant portion of medical and dental seats in their respective government and private colleges.

This decentralized counselling process is conducted by individual state Directorates of Medical Education (DMEs) or State Common Entrance Test Cells. It caters specifically to candidates who hold domicile or residency in that particular state, offering them admissions based on their NEET UG scores and state-specific merit lists, as well as adhering to state reservation policies. Besides MBBS and BDS, many states also initiate counselling for state quota seats in AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homoeopathy) and B.Sc. Nursing courses simultaneously.

Key Highlights and General Counselling Process:

While the exact schedule and detailed steps may vary slightly from state to state, the general roadmap for State Quota NEET UG 2025 counselling typically involves:

  1. Online Registration: Candidates must register on the respective state's official counselling portal, providing their NEET UG details, personal information, and domicile proofs.
  2. Fee Payment: A non-refundable registration fee and sometimes a refundable security deposit must be paid online.
  3. Document Upload: Scanned copies of essential documents like NEET UG Admit Card and Scorecard, Class 10th and 12th mark sheets, domicile certificate, caste/category certificates (if applicable), and photo ID are uploaded.
  4. Provisional Merit List Release: States typically publish a provisional merit list based on registered candidates' NEET scores and eligibility.
  5. Choice Filling & Locking: Candidates then fill and lock their preferred colleges and courses from the available seat matrix within a specified window.
  6. Seat Allotment: Based on ranks, preferences, and reservation criteria, seats are allotted in subsequent rounds.
  7. Reporting to Allotted College: Finally, candidates allotted seats must physically report to their assigned colleges with original documents for verification and to complete admission formalities.

States like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu (which also saw special category counselling begin today), and Andhra Pradesh are among those that are actively engaged in their first round of admissions. Chhattisgarh also commenced its counselling on July 29, setting the pace for other states.

Importance for State Domicile Candidates:

The State Quota counselling is critically important for domicile candidates as it accounts for 85% of the total seats in government medical and dental colleges, providing a higher chance of admission within their home state. Candidates are strongly advised to meticulously follow the guidelines issued by their respective state counselling authorities.

Aspirants must regularly check the official websites of their specific state's medical counselling authority for accurate and real-time updates regarding registration links, detailed schedules, seat matrix, merit lists, and round-wise allotment results. These dedicated portals are the sole authentic source of information. Adhering to deadlines and ensuring all documents are accurate and complete will be crucial for a smooth admission process into MBBS and BDS programs across the states.
