Relief for Karnataka Medical Aspirants: NMC Approves 450 Additional MBBS Seats for 2025-26

In a significant development for medical students across the state, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted a crucial approval for the addition of 450 new MBBS seats in Karnataka for the academic year 2025-2026. Background on the Decision

The state government had initially proposed a more substantial increase, including 850 medical seats and the establishment of two new medical colleges. However, the NMC had previously rejected a similar proposal, citing a lack of adequate infrastructure and teaching faculty. While this approval is a positive step, it is important to note that seven other government colleges and two proposed new colleges did not receive the NMC's sanction this time. A request from Sri Siddhartha Medical College for a seat increase was also rejected.
