The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, the organizing institute for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026, has set September 28, 2025, as the last date to complete the online registration without attracting a late fee.

This is a critical deadline for all aspiring UG and PG students currently in their third, final year, or who have already completed their degree. Candidates who miss this primary cutoff date can still register with a late fee until October 9, 2025.

GATE 2026 Application Fees: A Category-Wise Breakdown

The application fee for GATE 2026 must be paid online via the official GOAPS portal. Engineering students should note the fee structure, which varies by category and whether the application is submitted during the regular or extended period. All fees listed below are per test paper for candidates applying at centers in India:

Essential Documents Required for GATE Registration

  1. Scanned Photograph: A recent, high-quality, passport-size color photograph (as per the official specifications).
  2. Scanned Signature: A clear image of the candidate’s signature in black or dark blue ink.
  3. Valid Photo ID: A scanned copy of any government-issued photo identity proof (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Voter ID, or Driving License). The original ID must be carried to the exam center.
  4. Category/Disability Certificates (if applicable): Scanned copies of valid SC/ST or PwD certificates in PDF format for those seeking fee concessions or reservations.
  5. Qualifying Degree Details: Academic details of the undergraduate or postgraduate degree (including college name, address, and degree status).

The GATE 2026 examination is scheduled to be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. Students are strongly advised to complete their registration by September 28 to secure their slot without the penalty of a late fee.
