The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to commence the registration process for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026, Session 1, very soon, with strong indications pointing towards a release on or around October 15, 2025. This marks the crucial first step for all aspiring engineering students aiming for admission into prestigious institutions like the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). Aspirants are highly advised to keep a close watch on the official NTA website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, for the official notification and direct application link.

Key Tentative Dates and Exam Schedule for Aspirants

The JEE Main 2026 will follow a two-session format, providing candidates with two opportunities to achieve their best score. The tentative schedule for the two sessions is as follows:

EventSession 1 (January 2026) - TentativeSession 2 (April 2026) - Tentative
Registration Start DateMid-October 2025Early February 2026
Registration Last DateLate November 2025Late February 2026
Exam DatesLast week of January 2026April 2026

Note for Aspirants: While the registration for Session 1 begins in October, you will have a separate window to apply and pay the fee for Session 2 later, typically in February 2026, after the first session concludes. This strategy allows students to focus on one exam at a time.

Essential Documents and Application Process

Before the application window opens, engineering aspirants must ensure they have all the required documents and information ready to avoid last-minute issues.

  • Required Documents: These typically include a valid email ID and mobile number, your Aadhar Card, Class 10 mark sheet, a scanned photograph, and a scanned signature. Candidates applying under a reserved category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) or PwD must ensure their respective certificates are valid and updated as per NTA's guidelines.
  • Application Fee: The fee varies by category and gender, generally being higher for General/OBC male candidates and lower for female and reserved category applicants. Be prepared to make the payment online via Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI.

The application process involves four main steps: Registration (generating application number), Filling the Online Application Form (personal, academic, and exam city details), Uploading Scanned Documents, and finally, Paying the Examination Fee. A demo link for registration is often activated on the NTA website to help aspirants understand the process beforehand.

Eligibility and Exam Pattern Highlights

There is no age limit to appear for JEE Main 2026. The key eligibility requirement is that candidates must have passed their Class 12 or equivalent exam in 2024 or 2025, or be appearing for it in 2026.

  • For Admission to NITs/IIITs/GFTIs: Candidates must either secure a minimum of 75% marks in their Class 12 board examination (65% for SC/ST candidates) OR be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board.
  • Exam Pattern: The exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT) for B.E./B.Tech (Paper 1), assessing knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The structure for B.Arch (Paper 2A) and B.Planning (Paper 2B) has slight variations, including a Drawing Test (offline) for B.Arch. Each subject will have 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and 10 Numerical Value Type questions, out of which candidates must attempt 5 in the numerical section.

Aspirants are strongly advised to meticulously review the official NTA Information Bulletin once released for any minor modifications to the syllabus, exam pattern, or eligibility criteria. Timely application and focused preparation are the keys to success. For regular updates follow Only Education News.
