With 1,169 medical and dental seats still vacant after the first round of counselling, Gujarat opens a fresh opportunity for NEET UG 2025 aspirants in the upcoming second round.

The Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC) in Gujarat has revealed that a total of 1,169 seats for MBBS and BDS courses remain vacant across the state following the completion of the first round of counselling. This includes 588 MBBS seats and 581 BDS seats, presenting a significant opportunity for aspirants in the upcoming second round.

A closer look at the data shows that a substantial number of these vacancies are in prestigious institutions. For example, even the well-known BJ Medical College (BJMC) in Ahmedabad has 61 vacant MBBS seats. The reasons for these vacancies are varied and include students opting for colleges closer to home via the All India Quota and, as per a senior professor, a drop in interest in BJMC following the recent crash of Air India Flight 171 on June 12, 2025, which tragically impacted the college's hostel and student community.

The remaining seats are distributed across different quotas:

  • MBBS: 437 Government Quota, 120 Management Quota, and 31 NRI Quota seats are vacant.
  • BDS: 521 Government Quota, 51 Management Quota, and 1 NRI Quota seat are vacant.

The second round of counselling is a crucial chance for candidates who did not secure a seat in the first round to try again. The schedule for the second round of counselling is expected to begin on August 29, 2025, and aspirants are advised to keep a close watch on the official website for further instructions.
