NMC removes 150 MBBS students seat cap
The National Medical Commission has applied a cap to the number of seats of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery ( Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae ) or MBBS students that a state or a district can hold.

The National Medical Commission has applied a cap to the number of seats of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery ( Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae ) or MBBS students that a state or a district can hold. As per new regulations, the National Medical Commission has now removed the seat cap to Medical Colleges.
Until now, there was a seat cap of 150 MBBS students in a branch. The National Medical Commission has permanently removed this cap allowing medical colleges to increase the seats of MBBS students. Medical Colleges can admit more MBBS students without earlier restrictions of the Medical Commission.
Earlier, the National Medical Commission made a clause of an upper cap. The cap suggested that only 150 students would be provided admission to MBBS students. There was high demand by medical colleges to increase the upper limit to the seat cap.
Although the National Medical Commission listened to the demand of the administration of the colleges, but they declined any kind of change to the framework modulation. Now, UGMEB, Under Graduate Medical Education Board of National Medical Commission has passed an official Gazette stating clearly that no medical school in India is restricted to 150 MBBS seats like earlier.
Much more students can apply to medical schools as the number of seats have increased. The Gazette states that these medical colleges should clear other norms that apply to medical colleges in India.
The Gazette has also removed the limit of 100 MBBS seats per 10 lakh population in a state or a Union Territory. This will help the candidates to grow in the entire nation. Before this step, the Doctors were growing only in a certain part of the nation. Few Union Territories and states with low density were not able to facilitate the healthcare of their people. This step will help to homogenise the healthcare of the entire nation.
