NIT Sikkim has published the full fee structure for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs for the 2026-27 academic year. This helps students understand the cost of their chosen course more clearly. The fee structure includes all the charges like tuition, institutional fees, lab fees, and other academic costs that students have to pay during each semester. Some students, such as those from the SC/ST/PwD categories or those from economically weaker sections, can get fee exemptions as per the structure. Hostel or mess fees are not included in the main fee structure and are charged separately. The fee structure gives students a clear idea of the total cost they will have to bear for admission to their desired course.

Fee Structure Summary

ProgramTotal Academic FeeDuration
B.TechINR 5.86 Lakhs4 Years (8 Semesters)
M.TechINR 76,309 - INR 1.84 Lakhs2 Years (4 Semesters)
M.ScINR 76,309 - INR 1.84 Lakhs2 Years (4 Semesters)
Ph.D (Full-Time)INR 1.13 - INR 1.2 LakhsPer Semester

At NIT Sikkim, there is a complete tuition fee exemption for students belonging to the SC/ST/PwD categories. Students from economically weaker backgrounds, whose annual family income is less than INR 1 lakh, can get full 100% exemption on tuition fees. Those with an annual family income between INR 1 lakh and INR 5 lakhs are eligible for a partial exemption of 66% on tuition fees. Students who qualify for either full or partial fee exemption can also get hostel fee exemptions, although mess charges are optional and will be charged based on usage.

In addition to academic fees, hostel residents need to pay INR 7,500 per semester for hostel charges and INR 21,000 per semester for mess charges. If students use the university bus service, they need to pay INR 1,920 per semester. Other one-time fees include admission fees, ID card fees, welfare fund contributions, alumni fees, and convocation fees, which students must pay in addition to their regular academic fees.

For M.Tech and M.Sc programmes, the tuition fee for general category students is INR 35,000 per semester, while SC/ST students do not have to pay tuition fees. The Institute Fee is INR 1,276 per semester. Therefore, the total fee for general category students is INR 44,045 per semester, and for SC/ST students, it is INR 9,045 per semester, excluding hostel or mess charges.

For Ph.D scholars, the tuition fee for general category students is INR 7,500 per semester, but SC/ST students are completely exempt from tuition fees. The institute fee is INR 1,340 per semester, making the total fee for general category students INR 17,519 and for SC/ST students INR 10,019 per semester. In addition, there is a one-time thesis evaluation fee of INR 10,000, which is paid by students, excluding hostel or mess fees.
