NIT Jalandhar has started the online application process for the MBA Self-Sponsored course for the academic years 2026-2028. Qualified applicants can apply through the official website, nitj.ac.in. The application fee is ₹1,000 for candidates from the general category, while it is ₹500 for those belonging to SC, ST, and PWD categories. The final date to submit the online form is June 3, 2026. The MBA program is offered by the Department of Humanities and Management on an all-India quota basis.
Students can choose specializations in finance, human resource management, and marketing. A total of 15 seats are available for the self-sponsored MBA course. These are distributed as follows: 6 seats for the open/UR category, 4 seats for the OBC-NCL category, 2 seats for SC candidates, 1 seat for the ST category, and 2 seats for the EWS category. Additionally, 5% horizontal reservation is provided for PWD candidates in each category. This course is open to graduates and working professionals.

They need to have a bachelor’s degree in any field from any recognized university or institute. The minimum overall marks required are 60 percent, or 6.5 CGPA, for candidates belonging to the Open, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories. For SC, ST, and PWD candidates, the minimum overall marks required are 55 percent or a 6.0 CGPA. Students who are currently in their final year are also eligible, but they must meet all the criteria before the specified deadline. Only the original evaluation criteria, either CGPA or percentage as mentioned in the degree certificate, will be considered. Converting CGPA into percentage is not allowed.
Procedure to Apply for NIT Jalandhar MBA Self-Sponsored Admission 2026
- Applicants should register on the official MBA admission website at nitj.ac.in using their valid email address.
- After registration, candidates need to fill out the online application form and upload scanned copies of all required documents.
- These include the degree certificate, entrance test scorecard, mark sheets, category certificate (if applicable), and a character certificate.
- The application fee must be paid online.
- Incomplete applications or submissions made after the deadline will not be accepted.
Those who have valid percentile scores in the CAT, CMAT, or MAT exams can directly participate in the Group Discussion and Personal Interview. If someone does not have valid scores, they need to take the institute-level test that will be held at NIT Jalandhar in June 2026. The final selection will be based on three criteria: 70% weightage will be given to the entrance exam marks, 15% to group discussion marks, and 15% to personal interview marks. For those taking the institute test, the minimum cut-off marks will be 40% for general category candidates and 35% for reserved category candidates.
During the counseling process, candidates must bring all original documents along with two self-attested copies of each. The required documents include the qualifying degree or provisional degree certificate, the entrance exam scorecard showing the percentile score, mark sheets, Class 10th certificate with the date of birth, Class 12 result card, character certificate, medical fitness certificate, migration certificate, and category certificate, if applicable. Candidates should also bring four passport-sized photographs and two stamp-sized photographs.

Candidates are required to personally attend the Department of Humanities & Management, located on the 3rd floor of the Management and Science Block at NIT Jalandhar, on the day of counseling. Attendance is mandatory. If a candidate does not arrive at the venue before 12:00 noon, they will be considered absent, and their seat will be given to the next eligible candidate in the merit list. Seat allotment will be based on the common merit list, which is prepared by combining the scores of the entrance test, group discussion, and personal interview.
What’s next for the students
Candidates applying for admission under the regular category and self-sponsored MBA must apply separately, as both categories have different admission processes, and merit lists cannot be exchanged.
A Certificate of OBC-NCL must be issued after April 1, 2026, in the prescribed format by the Government of India, certifying that the candidate belongs to the non-creamy layer. Similarly, the EWS certificate must be issued after April 1, 2026, and must meet all the norms set by the Government of India.
