For every design aspirant, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) entrance exam is a highly sought-after gateway to a rewarding career in fashion and design. As the 2025 admission cycle concludes with its final counselling rounds, the focus has now shifted to the upcoming NIFT 2026 entrance exam. The official notification and application schedule are just around the corner, allowing students to start their preparation early.

Key Dates for NIFT 2026

While the official notification is expected to be released in November 2025, the tentative schedule provides a clear roadmap for aspirants. The NTA, on behalf of NIFT, will conduct the exam in early 2026.

• Application Form Release: The online application form for NIFT 2026 is expected to be available in the last week of November 2025.
• Application Deadline: The last date to apply with a regular fee will be in the first week of January 2026. A late fee window will follow shortly after.
• Written Exam (GAT & CAT): The NIFT 2026 written exam is tentatively scheduled for the second week of February 2026.
• Situation Test/Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates will participate in the Situation Test (for B.Des aspirants) or Personal Interview (for PG courses) in May-June 2026.

Understanding the Exam

The NIFT entrance exam is a two-part process consisting of a written test and a situational/interview round.

• The Creative Ability Test (CAT) evaluates a candidate's creative and drawing skills.
• The General Ability Test (GAT) assesses a student's analytical, quantitative, and communication skills.

The final merit list is prepared by assigning specific weightage to each component, with the CAT holding the highest importance for B.Des programs.

Students are advised to start preparing for both sections well in advance. Gathering all necessary documents for the application and familiarizing themselves with the exam pattern is also highly recommended.
