The NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) entrance exam is one of the most prestigious exams for design aspirants in India. While the official application form for NIFT 2026 is expected to be released in September 2025, understanding the application process in advance is key to a smooth and successful submission.

Documents You Will Need

Before you begin the online process, gather the following documents and information to save time and prevent errors:

• A valid email ID and mobile number for all communications.
• Educational qualification details, including your academic records.
• Personal information such as your parents' names, gender, nationality, and address.
• Scanned copies of your photograph and signature, which must be in jpg/jpeg format and not exceed 50 kb in size.
• Caste (OBC, SC, ST) or PWD certificates, if applicable.
• Credit/debit card or net banking details for online fee payment. A demand draft option is also available.

Step-by-Step Application Process

The application process is simple and can be completed in four main steps.

1. Registration: The first step is to create a new user account. You will need to provide basic details like your name, date of birth, category, email ID, and the program you wish to apply for. Upon submission, you will receive your unique NIFT login credentials, including an application number and password.
2. Filling the Application Form: After logging in, you will fill out the detailed application form. Some of your personal details will be auto-filled from the registration. You must then enter additional information, including your preferred test centers, full address, and Class 12 details.
3. Uploading Documents: This is where you upload the scanned copies of your photograph and signature. Make sure they meet the specified file format and size requirements.
4. Paying the Fee: The final step is to pay the application fee. The fee is ₹3,000 for General/OBC (Non-Creamy) candidates and ₹1,500 for SC/ST/PWD categories. You can pay online via credit/debit card or net banking.

It is highly recommended to fill out the form carefully and accurately. Typically, the NIFT authorities provide a correction window for a few days after the application deadline, but relying on it is not advisable.
