Understanding the DAT Mains Structure
The NID M.Des DAT Mains is vastly different from the Prelims. It moves beyond theoretical sketching to hands-on creative ability.
| Component | Description |
|---|---|
| Studio Test | Involves 3D modeling, material handling, and creative problem-solving under timed conditions. |
| Personal Interview | A one-on-one session where the jury reviews the candidate's portfolio and professional intent. |
| Portfolio Review | Candidates must present their best creative work to demonstrate their evolution as a designer. |
Exam Day Guidelines for Design Aspirants
As you prepare to travel to the designated NID campuses (Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, or Bengaluru), keep the following in mind:
- Stationery Kit: While NID provides basic materials, candidates are often allowed to bring their own specific drawing tools. Check the admit card for the "Allowed Materials" list.
- Reporting Time: Arrive at least 60 minutes before the scheduled start. Late entry is strictly prohibited due to the synchronized nature of the Studio Test.
- Original ID: Carry a valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar, Passport, or Voter ID) along with your NID admit card.
What’s Next?
After the conclusion of the DAT Mains, NID will calculate the final merit list by combining the weighted scores of the Prelims and the Mains. The final results are expected to be announced in late April or early May 2026, followed by the counseling and seat allotment process.
