For millions of medical aspirants across India, the NEET UG 2025 counselling process is the final and most crucial step towards realizing their dreams of pursuing MBBS, BDS, or other medical courses. Following the declaration of the provisional and final results for Round 1 of the All India Quota (AIQ) and various state quotas, the focus is now shifting towards the upcoming second round of counselling. This comprehensive article provides a detailed overview of the recent developments, state-specific updates, and a step-by-step guide for what students should do next.

NEET UG 2025 Counselling: What's Happened So Far

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) successfully concluded the first phase of the NEET UG 2025 counselling for the 15% AIQ seats. The provisional results for Round 1 were released on August 12, 2025, and the final list was published on August 13, 2025. Following the final allotment, the reporting period for candidates to join their respective colleges began on August 14 and has been extended until August 23, 2025. This extension provides students with a crucial window to complete all necessary admission formalities, including physical verification of documents and payment of admission fees. It is a critical period for students to secure their allotted seats.

State-Specific Updates for Round 1 Allotment

While the MCC handles the 15% AIQ, the remaining 85% of seats are managed by individual state counselling authorities. Several states have been quick to release their Round 1 seat allotment results.

  • Madhya Pradesh (MP): The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) in Madhya Pradesh has released the Round 1 seat allotment results for MBBS and BDS admissions. As per the revised schedule, candidates are required to report to their designated colleges between August 19 and August 23, 2025. The seat allocation was based on the candidate's NEET merit rank, preferences filled during counselling, and reservation guidelines.
  • Tamil Nadu (TN): The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu, has also announced its Round 1 seat allotment results for MBBS and BDS. Students must download their allotment orders and report to their respective colleges by August 24, 2025. This is a vital deadline for all students to confirm their admission.
  • Uttar Pradesh (UP): The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME), Uttar Pradesh, has released its Round 1 seat allotment results for 85% state quota seats. Candidates who were allotted a seat can download their allotment letters and complete the reporting process as per the specified dates.

Preparing for Round 2: A Fresh Opportunity

With the first round almost complete, the focus is now squarely on Round 2, which is expected to begin soon. The registration for the next phase is scheduled to start on August 21, 2025. This round is particularly significant for several groups of students:

  • Those who did not secure a seat in Round 1.
  • Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 1 but opted for an upgrade.
  • Those who are registering for the counselling process for the first time.

Fresh registration is required for new candidates, and they must pay the necessary registration and security fees. It's important to be meticulous while filling out choices for colleges and courses in Round 2, as this will determine the final seat allotment.

Essential Documents Required for Counselling

To ensure a seamless admission process, all aspiring students must keep the following documents ready in both original and photocopy format. This list is a general guide, and candidates should always refer to the specific requirements of the MCC and their respective state authorities.

  1. NEET UG 2025 Admit Card
  2. NEET UG 2025 Rank Letter/Scorecard
  3. Provisional Allotment Letter from MCC
  4. Class 10th Certificate and Mark Sheet
  5. Class 12th Certificate and Mark Sheet
  6. Government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar card, PAN card, etc.)
  7. Eight passport-size photographs
  8. Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  9. PwD Certificate (if applicable)
  10. All other certificates mentioned in the information bulletin.

After downloading the allotment letter from the MCC portal or the state-specific website, candidates are required to physically report to the allotted institute with these documents for verification.
